No. Larian’s official announcements cited here do not support the claim that new Karlach or Astarion story content is coming to Baldur’s Gate 3. The studio said Patch 8 would be the last game patch to introduce new content, and its later Xbox Play Anywhere announcement concerned platform support—not new companion scenes.
What Larian has said about future story content
In its April 15, 2025 Patch 8 announcement, Larian community manager Salo called Patch 8 “the last game patch to introduce new content.” Salo added: “That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions.” Larian’s Patch 8 announcement therefore does not point to a new Karlach or Astarion storyline.
The studio had set out the same broad direction earlier. In 2024’s Community Update #26, Larian said it would not add major new narrative content to Baldur’s Gate 3 or its Origin characters and companions, and that it was not making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4.
Why the 2026 Xbox update is not a story announcement
On August 3, 2026, Larian announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 was available through Xbox Play Anywhere and listed platform version updates. That post addresses availability and technical support; it does not announce new Karlach or Astarion scenes. A platform update and a narrative expansion are different kinds of news. Karlach did receive new scenes in an earlier patch
The confusion may stem from real Karlach additions that are already in the game. On September 2, 2023, Larian’s Patch 2 notes described a new optional ending scene for Karlach and additional moments for her in Acts 1 and 2. Those were historical updates, not an announcement of upcoming content. Larian’s Patch 2 notes document what was added.
The official material cited here does not establish a comparable new Astarion story release. Nor does it identify an upcoming companion-content update for either character.

- Existing Karlach additions: her Patch 2 scenes and optional ending are part of the earlier game update, not evidence of a new release.
For players who want to check the game or its editions, Larian’s official Baldur’s Gate 3 page identifies a Deluxe Edition. The page does not establish current retailer stock, price, or format availability, and buying an edition should not be taken as unlocking future Karlach or Astarion narrative content.
