That answers who can equip it, but not whether it is the best secondary for a particular build. The official notes record perk revisions and later balance changes, yet do not establish a current damage chart or definitive best class. Check the in-game Armory for the live build’s availability and perk descriptions.
Which classes can use the Heavy Bolt Pistol?
Focus Entertainment’s Patch 7.0 notes, dated April 15, 2025, list the Heavy Bolt Pistol for these PvE classes:

This is the documented availability in that update, not confirmation of every later change to the live game. Check the Armory in your current build before planning a loadout. Focus also cautioned in Patch 7.0 that access across classes does not mean every weapon is competitive in every class loadout.
Is the Heavy Bolt Pistol good?
It can be a valid secondary, but the available official notes do not support a definitive ranking or a single best class. The practical choice depends on the live weapon and perk descriptions, your class, and whether your build benefits more from headshots, recoil control, penetration, range, magazine capacity, or damage.
#1 Best Overall
- Embody the superhuman skill and brutality of a Space Marine. Unleash deadly abilities and devastating weaponry to obliterate the relentless Tyranid swarms. Defend the Imperium in spectacular third-person action in solo or co-op modes.
- Purge the relentless Tyranid swarms as legendary Space Marine Titus in a spectacular new campaign. Play solo or with up to 2 friends in 3 player co-op.
- Enjoy intense, gory and fast-paced third-person action with hundreds of enemies on screen, from the creators of blockbuster co-op shooter World War Z.
- Standard edition includes: Base game, Macragge’s Chosen DLC, with 3 unique cosmetics for your Bolt Rifle, Chainsword & Power Armour
Patch 7.0 documents changes to several of those perk dimensions, but it is a record of selected revisions—not a complete current stat sheet. Compare the Heavy Bolt Pistol with your other available secondaries in the Armory rather than treating those patch notes as a present-day tier list.
What changed in the Heavy Bolt Pistol’s perks?
Focus’s April 15, 2025 Patch 7.0 notes list perk revisions involving headshots, recoil, penetration, distance, magazine capacity, and damage. Among the stated effects are perks that make headshots deal 10% more damage and 20% more damage. Those figures describe specific perk effects in that patch; they are not a universal headshot multiplier for the weapon.
Use the in-game perk descriptions to assess the current choices and their trade-offs. The patch list does not document every current perk, variant, or weapon statistic, so it cannot by itself establish an optimal build.

What later balance changes affect it?
Heroic Heavy Bolt Pistol accuracy fix
On December 4, 2025, Focus’s Patch 11.1 notes said the Heroic Heavy Bolt Pistol’s hip-fire accuracy issue was fixed. The note describes an accuracy fix, not a damage increase or a change to the variant’s overall ranking.
Patch 13.0’s broader bolter changes
Focus’s Patch 13.0 notes, dated May 21, 2026, describe PvE firearm changes that apply broadly to bolter weapons: non-headshot damage increased by approximately 30%, and headshot calculations were reworked so weapon headshot bonuses are tied to weapon stats rather than enemy target stats. The approximately 30% figure is a developer patch-balance figure, not a measured player-performance result or a Heavy Bolt Pistol-specific buff.
The same notes say secondary-weapon Gun Strike damage shifted in some cases unintentionally and that a hotfix was planned. They do not establish the Heavy Bolt Pistol’s exact current damage, fire rate, or resulting time to kill.

How to choose a build without a current stat chart
Use the live Armory as the source for current numbers and perk text; use patch notes to understand the history behind them. When comparing the Heavy Bolt Pistol with another secondary or variant, check:
- Class access: confirm it appears for the class in your current build.
- Headshot emphasis: read the weapon and perk descriptions together; the patch-specific 10% and 20% effects are not a universal multiplier.
- Handling: compare recoil and spread effects, including whether you rely on hip-fire.
- Target coverage: consider penetration and range descriptions for the situations your loadout needs to handle.
- Sustained use: compare magazine and reserve capacity against other available secondaries.
This approach avoids turning historical perk edits or game-wide balance changes into an unsupported claim that one class or variant is currently best.
