To close a timeloop in Hell Is Us, locate and defeat its Timeloop Guardians, then use the required special item at the loop. Closing one prevents local enemies from respawning, which can make later visits and backtracking safer. The game does not rely on conventional quest markers to lead you through this process, so look for environmental clues and listen to NPC dialogue.
How to enter and destroy a timeloop
- Find the loop and read the area. Explore carefully, inspect landmarks, and pay attention to what NPCs say. The game’s creative director has described its approach as relying on observation, reasoning, and intuition rather than detailed maps, quest markers, or quest journals. PlayStation.Blog’s 2024 discussion of the game’s design explains that environments and dialogue are meant to guide players organically.
- Identify the Timeloop Guardians. The closure process requires defeating the specific guardians associated with that loop. Do not assume every enemy in the area is a guardian, or that every loop has the same number; those details vary by location.
- Use the required item at the loop. After defeating the guardians, return to the loop and use its required special item there. Check the game’s clues for the right item and interaction. A third-party guide calls these items Amine Prisms and describes variants, but the official sources reviewed do not establish a universal item-to-loop mapping.
What to do when a Guardian has linked Hazes
Some encounters include Hazes linked to a Guardian. In the Temple of the Fallen example described by a location guide, destroy both linked Hazes before engaging the Walker. Treat this as guidance for that specific encounter, not a rule for every Timeloop Guardian.

Should you close every timeloop?
Most loop closures are optional, according to a review; they are not established as mandatory for all progression. The practical benefit is local: closing a loop stops enemies in that area from respawning, making it less hostile when you return or need to backtrack.
Explore first or use a walkthrough?
| Approach | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Follow in-game clues | Players who want to preserve the intended discovery experience | Finding the relevant guardians and item can take longer because the game avoids conventional objective markers. |
| Consult a location walkthrough | Players stuck on a particular guardian or item step | Specific instructions can reduce searching, but may reveal encounter details or other discoveries. |
Use a guide for the location you are actually in rather than relying on a universal recipe: the broad guardian-then-item sequence is supported, but exact counts, item variants, and encounter tactics are location-specific.
