Yes. Helldivers 2 supports crossplay between Steam and PlayStation 5. A PC player and a PS5 player can join the same squad of up to four online players. Use the game’s Social menu and friend-code system to connect; PS5 requires PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer, while Steam does not. Crossplay lets you play together, but it does not provide cross-save, cross-progression, or cross-buy.
What you need for PC–PS5 crossplay

PlayStation confirms four-player online support and the PlayStation Plus requirement on its official support page. Arrowhead’s FAQ lists Steam and PS5 as supported platforms and requires an internet connection.
How to enable or disable crossplay
Arrowhead confirms that crossplay can be disabled. From your ship, open Options/Settings and look for the crossplay control in the gameplay, social, or online-play section. Turn it on for a PC–PS5 party, apply the change, and restart the game if the setting does not take effect immediately. The exact label and menu location can change between game builds, so use the wording shown in your current client.
Turning crossplay off can limit matchmaking to your platform or help determine whether a platform-specific social problem is involved. Re-enable it before trying to add a friend across PC and PS5.

How to add a cross-platform friend
- Update both copies of Helldivers 2 and launch the game.
- Complete enough of the opening sequence to reach your ship.
- Open the in-game Social menu. On PC, press Tab while on the ship. On PS5, press X while on the ship.
- Choose the option to generate a friend code.
- Send the code through a separate channel such as text, Discord, or voice chat.
- The other player opens Social and enters the code in the friend-search or add-friend field.
- Send the request, then open Friend Requests and accept it on the receiving account.
- Return to the Friends list and select the player.
Arrowhead’s friend-request instructions also include pending invitations, recent players, and blocked players in the Social tab.
Use Recent Players instead
If you have already shared a mission, open Social, choose Recent Players, select the other player, and send a request. This avoids manually typing a code and is useful after a Quickplay match.
How to join the same squad
- Have the host remain idle on the ship.
- Open Social and select the accepted friend.
- Choose Invite to Squad, if that option is shown.
- The invited player accepts and loads onto the host’s ship.
- Select a mission and deploy the squad.
The other player can use Join instead when the friend’s session is joinable. Invite asks someone to enter your current session; Join enters theirs. Quickplay is general matchmaking, not the most dependable way to assemble a specific PC–PS5 pair.

Crossplay is not cross-save, cross-progression, or cross-buy
You can fight in the same missions, but each platform keeps separate progression. Arrowhead’s support article, updated July 30, 2026, states that Helldivers 2 has no cross-save, cross-progression, or cross-buy. Linking Steam and PlayStation Network accounts does not merge or copy levels, unlocks, DLC, Warbonds, Super Credits, limited-time content, or pre-order items. Support cannot transfer or merge those inventories, and a purchase on one platform does not unlock the other version. See Arrowhead’s account-transfer FAQ.
Troubleshooting PC–PS5 invitations
The friend request does not appear
- Confirm both players are on their ships rather than still in the tutorial.
- Check that crossplay is enabled for both players.
- Close and relaunch the game.
- Generate a new code and enter it manually.
- Try sending the request from the other platform.
- Use Recent Players if you have shared a mission.
- Check that neither account has blocked the other.
- Install every available update and verify both clients show the same version.
Arrowhead has documented historical cross-platform invitation failures, including requests missing from Friend Requests. Later patches fixed several Social and invitation problems, so treat old launch-era reports as historical rather than proof that every current session is broken. See the earlier patch notes and the June 1, 2026 social fixes.
The friend-code option is missing
Check crossplay first. Arrowhead specifically fixed cases where friend-code features disappeared while crossplay was disabled. Re-enable crossplay, return to the ship, reopen Social, and restart if necessary. The relevant note is in Patch 01.002.001.

Join is unavailable after acceptance
- The friend may be loading, in a menu, in a tutorial, or between missions.
- The squad may be full.
- The host may be using an invite-only or otherwise non-joinable session.
- The clients may be on different versions.
- The Social list may not have refreshed.
- One player may be blocked.
Have the host start a fresh ship session and send a direct invitation. If that fails, both players should restart, try the other player as host, and confirm updates again.
A player is blocked accidentally
Blocking prevents direct joining, matchmaking into each other’s hosted sessions, and voice or text communication. On PC, press Escape; on PS5, press Options. Open Social, select the player, and unblock them or manage the Blocked Players list. Arrowhead explains the effects in its blocking guide.

Still cannot connect
Try a new host, disable and re-enable crossplay, leave any existing squad, and test a new invitation while both players are idle on their ships. If the Social menu remains stuck or invitations consistently fail after updates, contact the Arrowhead Support Center. For Steam-specific faults, use Steam’s technical support page.

Platform differences that crossplay does not remove
- PC supports configurable graphics settings and mouse-and-keyboard input.
- PS5 uses the console version and requires PlayStation Plus for online play.
- Loading behavior, performance, input feel, and network conditions can differ between systems.
Crossplay makes the squad compatible; it does not make the two versions technically identical.

Does Helldivers 2 have cross-save or cross-progression?
No. Progress, DLC, Warbonds, Super Credits, and other items remain tied to the platform account where they were earned.
Can I buy Helldivers 2 once for both PC and PS5?
No. Arrowhead says cross-buy is unavailable, so the Steam and PS5 versions are separate purchases.
Can four players use different platforms?
The online squad limit is four players, and PC–PS5 crossplay allows those platforms to play together.
Why is my friend code missing?
