Contabo is the more direct first option if you specifically want an India-hosted server: its location page lists India. Hetzner’s cited location and traffic information does not establish an India region, though a Hetzner server in Singapore may still be a good fit if its route to YouTube works well from your setup. Neither provider’s traffic allowance or port-speed label proves that a particular server will sustain your stream without interruption. Compare the exact plan and test it from the region you intend to use before relying on it.
Start by deciding whether the server encodes or relays
The hosting choice depends partly on what the server must do. Encoding source video on a VPS makes processor performance and codec support important. Relaying an already encoded feed usually needs less compute, so network stability, traffic terms, and reliable process recovery matter more. Without knowing your source, resolution, frame rate, and encoding method, there is no sound basis for recommending a particular server size.

Hetzner Cloud
The Hetzner traffic documentation includes information for Singapore and other regions, but it does not establish an India data-center location. Singapore is not automatically a worse choice: the relevant question is how the chosen instance’s route performs to YouTube’s ingest from your network and streaming setup. Compare traffic allowances, not just “unlimited” labels
A continuous outbound stream consumes substantial traffic. As a planning estimate, a stream at B megabits per second sends about B × 10.8 decimal GB in 24 hours, before protocol overhead. At 6 Mbps, that is about 64.8 GB per day, or roughly 1.94 TB over 30 days. This is arithmetic, not a provider performance or billing quote. Add any other outputs, uploads, backups, or traffic from other services on the server.

Calculate your own expected usage
- Choose the bitrate YouTube recommends for your resolution and frame rate.
- Estimate monthly stream traffic as bitrate in Mbps × 10.8 × 30 for decimal GB, then divide by 1,000 for approximate decimal TB.
- Add the traffic from any other outputs or server activity.
- Compare that estimate with the selected product’s included allowance and current overage terms.
This estimate helps identify whether an allowance is likely to be a constraint. It does not tell you whether the server’s route can sustain the bitrate.

Check the stream path and YouTube encoder settings
For live encoding, YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds, and testing with representative audio and motion. Choose the bitrate for your resolution and frame rate from YouTube’s current encoder settings table. For example, the table gives 1440p at 60 fps a range of 6–30 Mbps; this is encoding guidance, not a measurement of either host’s network. YouTube Live encoder settings
Leave network headroom rather than assuming a server will continuously deliver exactly the video bitrate. Test the real stream at the intended settings and monitor YouTube’s stream health, dropped frames, and reconnects. A low ping alone does not establish that a route will carry a stable live feed.

Availability commitments are not streaming guarantees
Hetzner’s Cloud and vServer Service Agreement says it will use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure 99.9% monthly availability for Cloud Servers, subject to its defined availability test and exceptions. Contabo’s terms state 99.9% annual average connectivity for listed services, also subject to scope and exclusions. These are different measurement periods and terms, so the percentages are not directly comparable. For a stream where downtime matters, configure the encoder or relay to reconnect or restart after a failure and consider a backup path. Those measures address application recovery; they do not change either provider’s availability definition.

How to choose between them
- Start with Contabo if an India location is important, then confirm the location and traffic conditions for your exact product.
- Evaluate Hetzner Singapore if its current plan, compute resources, or measured route suits your use case better. Do not assume the route is good or bad based on geography alone.
- If encoding on the server, trial the actual encoder settings on the candidate instance before choosing its size.
- If relaying an encoded feed, prioritize a sustained network test and dependable process supervision over unnecessary compute capacity.
- Before depending on either service, run an extended stream test from the exact region and plan. Check stream health and reconnects over time, not just a short speed test.
No neutral head-to-head workload test establishes which provider delivers a more reliable 24/7 YouTube stream from a particular Indian ISP. The useful comparison is the exact plan, route, and workload you will actually run.
