Short answer: HexGaming is the stronger starting point if you want four rear controls, Hall-effect stick options and a feature-heavy setup for the money. SCUF is a better fit if you prefer its paddle layout and established PS5-focused lineup. Neither brand is a universal winner: for full DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, consider Sony’s DualSense Edge instead.
This is a model-by-model comparison, not a verdict on two uniform product lines. Prices below are US storefront listings noted on August 16, 2026; configuration, design, taxes, shipping and availability can change the final cost.
Which controller fits your priorities?
| If you prioritize… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lower entry price with four rear controls | HexGaming Ultimate | Its listed starting price is lower than the SCUF options below, and the line advertises rear remapping and interchangeable sticks. |
| Hall-effect sticks and multiple profiles | HexGaming Ultimate Pro | Applicable configurations advertise Hall-effect sticks, four rear buttons and six onboard profiles. |
| FPS-focused instant triggers and paddles | SCUF Reflex FPS | It is configured for shooter play with instant triggers and rear paddles. |
| SCUF’s current PS5 lineup | SCUF Omega | It is listed at $219.99 for standard colors, before any themed-design premium. |
| Haptics, adaptive triggers and replaceable stick modules | Sony DualSense Edge | It retains Sony’s DualSense feature set and supports replaceable stick modules, though it has two rear-button positions rather than four controls. |
| DualSense-style custom controller | HexGaming Phantom, after checking its exact configuration | Confirm which original DualSense functions remain on the particular build before ordering. |
HexGaming’s listed starting prices are $179.99 for Ultimate, $219.99 for Ultimate Pro and $229.99 for Phantom. SCUF lists Omega at $219.99 for standard colors, with special designs around $229.99–$239.99; Reflex listings are around $239.99 in its US catalog. These are storefront price signals, not guaranteed checkout totals. HexGaming Ultimate collection; SCUF PS5 catalog; SCUF Reflex catalog.
What is actually being compared?
HexGaming and SCUF each sell materially different controllers. The closest practical matchups are Ultimate versus Reflex FPS or Reflex Pro for four rear controls; Ultimate Pro versus Reflex Pro or Omega for configurable competitive play; and Phantom versus a DualSense-based alternative when immersion features matter. A PC-oriented model such as SCUF Envision Pro is not a direct PS5 comparison.

SCUF’s comparison guide distinguishes Reflex, Reflex Pro and Reflex FPS by configuration, so “SCUF Reflex” alone is not precise enough when choosing trigger behavior or features. The same caution applies to HexGaming: Hall-effect sticks and calibration tools are model- or configuration-dependent, not guaranteed across every controller in the range. How do rear buttons and paddles compare?
HexGaming Ultimate Pro: four buttons and six profiles
HexGaming advertises four mappable rear buttons, up to 15 button assignments and six onboard profiles on Ultimate Pro. That combination suits players who want separate layouts for games or roles without relying on an external remapping app. Check the selected SKU’s documentation for the exact profile-switching method and supported assignments. HexGaming Ultimate Pro specifications.
SCUF Reflex: four removable, remappable paddles on applicable models
Applicable Reflex models use four rear paddles and onboard profiles. The paddles are removable, which can help players who want fewer active controls, but paddle shape and reach are ergonomic preferences; a button is not automatically easier or harder to use than a paddle. Confirm the exact Reflex variant’s included paddle and profile features before purchase. SCUF Reflex FPS product page.
Map only actions you can use reliably. Jump, crouch or slide, reload, melee, weapon swap and sprint are common candidates in shooters. Four rear controls may reduce thumb movement, but they can also crowd the fingers or invite accidental presses. Start with the minimum useful controls, then add more only if you can reach and press them cleanly in play.
Which trigger design is better for your games?
Instant triggers for shooters
HexGaming advertises clicky hair triggers on Ultimate models, with activation travel described by the manufacturer as about 2.0 mm. SCUF Reflex FPS is also positioned around instant triggers. Shorter, click-like actuation can suit games where the trigger is used as a digital fire button, but neither manufacturer specification establishes measured end-to-end latency. Analog travel for driving and varied pressure
Trigger stops or instant triggers reduce or remove the range of analog travel. That is a trade-off in racing, flight and other games that use variable pressure for throttle, braking or acceleration. Reflex Pro is the more conventional choice within the Reflex family if you want a controller experience closer to standard analog triggers; verify the selected model’s exact trigger configuration. Where profiles allow it, keep a short-travel FPS setup separate from a full-travel driving setup.
SCUF Omega advertises adjustable triggers, but the available mechanism and range should be checked on the exact SKU rather than inferred from the family name. SCUF Omega product information.
Do Hall-effect sticks make HexGaming drift-proof?
No. Hall-effect sensing avoids the resistive contact point used by traditional potentiometer sticks and can reduce wear-related drift risk. It does not prevent every cause of inaccurate input: calibration faults, sensor defects, mechanical damage, shaft wear, firmware issues or unsuitable dead-zone settings can still affect control. HexGaming offers Hall-effect options on applicable models and notes that circularity error can vary because its controller design differs from the original DualSense design. HexGaming Ultimate Pro specifications and circularity note.
Separate stick-sensor longevity from overall controller durability. A different sensor does not establish that the shell, buttons, stick mechanism or assembly will last longer. Compare the exact stick option, calibration capability, replacement parts and warranty terms. SCUF configurations can differ too, so do not assume every Reflex or Omega uses the same stick technology.
Stick height and cap shape also affect feel and leverage, not just sensor type. HexGaming advertises interchangeable thumbsticks on Ultimate models; SCUF’s applicable Reflex materials likewise describe interchangeable sticks. Confirm which caps are included and whether alternatives are part of the price or an extra purchase. HexGaming Ultimate collection; SCUF Reflex FPS product page.

What PS5 features do you give up?
Do not assume an officially licensed third-party controller reproduces every DualSense feature. SCUF says third-party licensed controllers do not currently provide the complete haptic-feedback and adaptive-trigger experience associated with Sony’s controller family. That matters most in games built around trigger resistance or detailed vibration, rather than in a competitive shooter where quick inputs may matter more. SCUF controller comparison guide.
HexGaming’s Ultimate and Ultimate Pro should not be treated as feature-equivalent to a standard DualSense just because they target PS5. The Phantom is marketed as a DualSense-based custom controller and warrants separate scrutiny: confirm haptics, adaptive triggers, gyro, speaker, microphone, touchpad, wireless pairing and PS button behavior for the precise configuration. The available product comparison information makes features model-dependent; it does not establish that every Phantom build retains every original function. HexGaming PS5 comparison chart.

Sony’s DualSense Edge is the clearer option when haptics and adaptive triggers are non-negotiable. Sony lists motion controls, adjustable trigger travel, profiles and replaceable stick modules; its profiles can also adjust button assignments, stick sensitivity and dead zones, trigger dead zones, vibration and trigger-effect intensity. It has two rear-button positions rather than the four rear controls emphasized by HexGaming and SCUF. DualSense Edge features; Sony profile and personalization guide.
Wireless, wired play and latency
Check connection behavior by model rather than brand. SCUF Reflex documentation describes pairing to PS5 by USB before using wired or wireless play. Omega documentation describes USB-C charging and a cable-lock mechanism designed to reduce accidental disconnection in tournament setups. These details do not establish that every feature works identically in wired and wireless modes, or that wireless and wired latency are equal. SCUF Reflex connection documentation; SCUF Omega product information.
The supplied manufacturer specifications do not provide controlled, directly comparable end-to-end latency measurements for these models. Claims that a controller is “faster” should not be read as a measured advantage without tests covering connection mode, polling behavior, actuation consistency and game response. For tournament use, confirm whether the event requires a wired connection and whether the chosen controller can be secured with your cable.

HexGaming advertises rubberized grip surfaces, interchangeable thumbsticks and multiple trigger choices on Ultimate models. SCUF Reflex materials emphasize a performance grip, removable faceplate or trim elements, interchangeable sticks on applicable models and rear paddles. Those descriptions establish options, not that one brand has better build quality or is more comfortable for every hand. HexGaming Ultimate collection; SCUF Reflex FPS product page.
Compare configured checkout totals rather than base prices. Color or artwork, grip, stick, trigger and accessory choices can change the price, and shipping and tax add further cost. HexGaming’s listed entry price is attractive if the desired controls are included in that configuration; SCUF’s standard-color Omega starts near the same price as Ultimate Pro, while Reflex listings are higher. The available price listings do not establish like-for-like totals for every custom build.
Before paying, inspect the cart for the specific rear-control count, stick type, trigger configuration, included alternate caps, case and any configuration surcharge. Also check replacement-part availability and return restrictions: custom designs or configuration choices may affect what can be returned, so read the applicable terms for the product being ordered.

SCUF states that new Reflex controllers purchased from SCUF or an authorized reseller generally carry a one-year warranty beginning on delivery, subject to exclusions including excessive wear and damage. Omega documentation also states a one-year limited warranty. A stated warranty period is not a guarantee that every drift complaint or accidental damage case will be covered; consult the policy for the exact purchase and issue. - Aim and move with precision by swapping in fresh stick modules* so you’re always playing with equipment that’s in great shape. Plus, three types of changeable stick caps help you stay comfortable in-game without sacrificing grip or stability.
- Mappable back buttons The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s two swappable sets of back buttons can be configured to any other button input, so you’ve always got game-changing actions and essential controls at your fingertips.
- Adjustable trigger lengths Manually set the travel distance of your left and right triggers for an optimal experience with whatever you’re playing. Fast-paced FPS? Set a shorter travel distance to shoot faster on the field. Competitive racer? Set a longer travel distance for precise throttle control on the track.
- Remappable buttons Remap or even deactivate specific button inputs, so you can create a completely personalized control setup that’s ideal for the game at hand.
- Quick-swap control profiles Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on-the-fly, so your favourite configurations are always ready when you are.
A comparable HexGaming warranty duration and coverage is not established here, so do not assume parity with SCUF. Before buying a customized HexGaming controller, locate its current official warranty and returns terms and check duration, coverage of stick issues, shipping responsibility, repair versus replacement, and whether changing modules affects eligibility. For either company, support process and replacement availability are part of the real cost of ownership.
Who should buy which controller?
Choose HexGaming Ultimate for a lower-cost competitive setup
It is the most relevant starting point if you want rear controls, interchangeable sticks and shooter-oriented trigger options without beginning at SCUF Reflex pricing. Check the exact build for the controls and trigger setup you need, and review support terms before ordering.
Choose HexGaming Ultimate Pro for Hall-effect options and profiles
It makes sense for players who value four rear buttons, six onboard profiles and applicable Hall-effect stick configurations at a listed starting price of $219.99. Treat calibration and circularity as part of the stick decision, not as a promise of drift immunity.
Choose SCUF Reflex FPS for a shooter-first paddle setup
Choose it if instant triggers and SCUF’s four-paddle layout suit your hands and games. Its higher listed US price makes sense only if that configuration and ecosystem matter more to you than HexGaming’s feature density per dollar.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose SCUF Reflex Pro or Omega for a broader SCUF setup
Reflex Pro is worth considering when you want rear paddles but a less shooter-specialized feel; Omega is SCUF’s current PS5 offering for buyers drawn to its customization and profiles. Verify the specific model’s stick, trigger, connection and feature behavior before comparing it with a HexGaming build.
Choose Phantom only after feature-by-feature confirmation
Phantom may suit buyers seeking a custom DualSense-based format plus competitive controls, but confirm the retained Sony features for the exact configuration. Do not buy it on the assumption that “DualSense-based” guarantees full haptics or adaptive triggers.
Choose DualSense Edge for immersion and replaceable sticks
It is the more direct fit for Sony’s haptics, adaptive triggers, motion controls and replaceable stick modules. Choose it over a four-control layout if two rear buttons are enough and native DualSense behavior matters more.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact model and configuration, not just the brand or product family.
- Check rear-control count, button or paddle layout, and onboard profile support.
- Verify stick technology, calibration options, included stick caps and replacement availability.
- Match trigger travel to your games; retain analog range for driving or other variable-pressure actions.
- Confirm wired and wireless behavior, PS5 compatibility and PC compatibility for your intended use.
- Check which haptics, adaptive triggers, gyro, touchpad, speaker and microphone functions remain on that exact model.
- Compare the configured price, shipping, tax and accessories rather than base prices alone.
- Read current warranty, return and repair terms before submitting a customized order.
Alternatives beyond HexGaming and SCUF
The DualSense Edge is the strongest fit among these alternatives for players who want Sony’s feature set and replaceable stick modules, with the trade-off of only two rear positions. Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded is another modular PS5 competitive option identified by independent coverage, with adjustable triggers, four remappable paddles and interchangeable sticks and D-pads, including a fight-pad module. Its current price, availability and compatibility details should be checked with the maker before purchase; it is not a substitute for full DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers.
