If you’re stuck in Percival Rackham’s Trial in Hogwarts Legacy, first check whether a puzzle or encounter is still unfinished. If you defeated the final guardian, interacted with the Pensieve, and got neither a cutscene nor quest completion, you may be hitting a progression bug. Portkey Games listed a fix for the trial blocker in its June 2, 2023 patch notes, but a later player report describes a similar symptom.
Check whether the trial is actually complete
“Stuck on Trial 1” can describe two different problems: a missed step in the trial or a failure to advance after its final encounter. If you have not reached the Pensieve at the end, follow a complete Percival Rackham’s Trial walkthrough to check the puzzles, traversal, and encounters. Reaching the end is different from completing every required step along the way.
If the Pensieve does not trigger quest completion
The most clearly documented bug symptom is reaching and interacting with the final Pensieve after defeating the statues and Pensieve Guardian, but seeing no cutscene and receiving no quest completion. A Steam player described that sequence in a post dated February 23, 2025; it is an individual report, not proof that every player with a similar issue has the same cause.
Portkey Games’ June 2, 2023 patch notes for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC list the fix: “Resolved Percival Rackham’s Trial not being able to be completed causing a progression blocker.” The notes track the issue as HL-12745 and also mention a related fix for a quest failing to progress when the final Pensieve Guardian battle starts. These notes establish that a fix was released for those platforms at that time; they do not guarantee that every current save or modded PC installation is free of the symptom. What to try on Windows PC
Test without mods first
If you have mods installed, temporarily disable them or move them out of the game’s ~mods folder, keeping a separate copy of your files. Then load the affected save and check whether the Pensieve sequence progresses. This is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix: one Steam commenter said disabling an unlock-all-spells mod helped them, while the original poster said they were not using mods.
Consider the community fix only as a last resort
A community mod specifically targets the Pensieve cutscene failure. It is unofficial, intended for PC, and not a console solution. Its author warns that other mods—especially SQL mods—can conflict with it, and current compatibility with every game build is not established. For a Vortex setup, the mod’s installation instructions say to disable merged SQL mods and put the fix last in the load order. The author advises disabling the fix after progressing past the cutscene. These are community instructions, not WB support; consult the Vortex installation guide and preserve your files before changing a mod setup.

The community mod is not a console workaround. On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, confirm the game is updated and verify that the trial’s route and encounters are complete. The official patch notes record a progression fix for those platforms, but the available evidence does not establish a further console-specific fix for a save that still fails at the Pensieve.

Repeatedly restarting the quest or reinstalling the game is not an established solution for this quest-state and cutscene symptom. One 2025 player said reinstalling and restarting did not help them; that anecdote does not prove those steps can never help, but there is no source-backed reason to treat them as the answer.
