Spoilers for bosses and story moments throughout Hollow Knight: Silksong, including late-game encounters. This is a subjective ranking, not a canonical list or a player poll. It weighs how readable and expressive a fight feels, how distinct its mechanics are, and how well music, animation, arena, and story context strengthen the encounter. Difficulty matters, but a punishing fight does not automatically rank higher. Optional and route-dependent bosses are marked because not every player will meet them on the same path.
10. Bell Beast
Bell Beast earns its place as a memorable early encounter, a useful reminder that a boss need not be the hardest in the game to make an impression. Its inclusion also gives the list a different shape from a parade of late-game duels. GamesRadar+ reported that Bell Beast was mentioned positively in 90% of reviews that mentioned the name in a 2025 analysis of Steam review text; that is a measure of sentiment among those mentions, not a rating of the fight or a vote for its position here.
9. Fourth Chorus
Fourth Chorus stands out for scale and presentation. A Reddit post surfaced in search results describes it as especially well presented and as a large, screen-filling boss. That is a single player’s characterization, not a consensus, but spectacle is a worthwhile part of a boss ranking: an encounter can feel memorable because of the space it occupies and the way it changes the pace of a journey.
8. Last Judge
Last Judge has the presence of a substantial gate on the way toward the Citadel, but route choice affects when—or whether—you fight her on an initial path. Nintendo Life’s September 2025 guide says players can use Sinner’s Road as an alternate route into Act 2, bypassing Last Judge initially. GamesRadar+ reported positive sentiment in 65% of Steam reviews mentioning Last Judge in its November 2025 review-text analysis. Neither route placement nor that percentage makes her universally loved; the statistic captures mentions, not a direct quality score.

7. Widow
Widow makes this ranking on the strength of positive player mentions rather than a claim of broad agreement. She offers a change of texture among the more celebrated rival duels and rhythm fights. The available player discussion gives her a qualified nod, so this is a lower-ranked pick rather than a declaration that she belongs above more frequently praised encounters.
6. Phantom
Phantom’s appeal starts with the fact that it is easy to miss. Nintendo Life identifies Phantom as a secret boss along Sinner’s Road, the same route that can provide an alternate entry to Act 2. Gfinity describes its spike-floor arena as a hazard that punishes missteps and demands attention beyond simply tracking the boss.
That extra arena pressure gives Phantom a distinct identity, even if players disagree about its difficulty and overall standing. It is a route-dependent pick, not a fight every player will have encountered.
Rank #2
- Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the award winning action-adventure.
- Journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover secrets tied to your nature and your past.
5. Lace
Lace is compelling as a recurring rival, not just as an opponent with an agile moveset. Gfinity characterizes her as mirroring Hornet’s style and highlights the music of the second battle. The repetition gives each meeting a sense of character and escalation; one Steam commenter also preferred fighting Lace partly because she is closer to Hornet’s size and appears more than once.

She ranks below the most distinctive late-game and set-piece fights, but her character connection keeps her among the list’s strongest duels.
4. Cogwork Dancers
The Cogwork Dancers turn combat into a rhythmic exchange. Gfinity describes the fight as less about overwhelming difficulty than patience and timing, while player discussion also places the pair among the game’s top encounters. Their presentation gives the encounter an identity that lasts beyond the attack patterns: Gfinity notes the surviving dancer’s routine after its partner falls, along with the music transition.

That moment gives the fight an emotional afterimage without relying on difficulty as its only distinction. Opinions differ on how high the Dancers belong, but the combination of rhythm, music, and aftermath makes them one of the game’s most memorable designs.
3. Lost Lace
Late-game story spoiler: Lost Lace is a major late-game encounter, and its context is part of why it ranks so highly. Steam commenters place the fight at or near the top and say the story surrounding it elevates the experience. One player describes it as a longer, more dangerous version of Lace with better pacing.

2. The First Sinner
The First Sinner is the ranking’s strongest test of movement and control. Gfinity describes needles and exploding runes as central threats, and characterizes the fight as intense but balanced. Steam players praise the movement demands and often place the boss near the top of their own lists.
Its challenge is not identical for everyone: one player says the fight can feel short depending on when it is encountered. That qualification matters, but the central appeal remains its pressure and pattern-reading. It demands active movement without reducing the encounter to difficulty for difficulty’s sake.

Skarrsinger Karmelita takes the top spot because her fight makes its rhythm feel like the point. Steam commenters praise the way music, animation, attacks, and patterns synchronize into a dance-like loop. Learning the cues does not simply make the fight easier; it lets the player participate in the encounter’s pace.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Some player criticism is aimed at the surrounding gauntlet and runback rather than at Karmelita herself. That distinction is important: access friction can make an encounter less pleasant to reach without diminishing the boss’s design once the fight begins. On rhythm, readability, and execution, Karmelita is the most complete duel in this ranking.
Why these rankings are personal
Silksong has more than 40 boss encounters, including optional fights, and its act-based progression can take players along different routes. Nintendo Life’s September 2025 guide lists optional encounters in Acts 1 and 2 and notes that some fights treated as optional can matter for later endings or completion goals. A top ten necessarily leaves out worthy bosses and favors the encounters whose mechanics, presentation, or story context make them especially distinct.
The ranking is an editorial judgment informed by player discussion and coverage, not a measured consensus. GamesRadar+’s November 2025 report on an analysis of about 260,000 Steam reviews illustrates why review-text statistics should not be mistaken for a boss leaderboard: its percentages describe positive sentiment among reviews mentioning a name, and reviews can praise the game overall while criticizing a particular element. The reported figures are also dated, not a measure of current 2026 opinion.
