What this guide covers
The Hollow Knight Wiki’s Skills and Abilities category lists 22 entries, but that figure is a count of category pages, not an official developer statistic. The category includes combat skills, traversal arts, Needolin melodies and other abilities or upgrades. Exact acquisition locations for every entry are not established here, so the five locations below should not be read as a full map of all 22.

For movement-focused progression, the five are complementary: Silkspear breaks certain silk barriers, Cling Grip supports wall climbing, Drifter’s Cloak provides lift and a slow descent, Clawline enables grappling, and Faydown Cloak adds an airborne leap.

Where to find each ability
Silkspear
In Mosshome, interact with the spider effigy to obtain Silkspear. The walkthrough location notes identify it as a tool for breaking silk barriers and destroying the anchors trapping the Bell Beast, making it useful for opening blocked progression.

Cling Grip
In Shellwood, reach the Weaver Burial Spire beyond a platforming section. The standard route described by the Hollow Knight Wiki becomes accessible after defeating Sister Splinter in the room to the right. The wiki also notes a possible skip: use Challenge to lure a Phacia, then bounce off it with the Needle. Treat that as an alternate skip, not the ordinary route.
Drifter’s Cloak
Speak with the Seamstress in Far Fields and complete the Flexile Spines Wish. For the request, collect 25 Spine Cores by attacking Hokers; the reward is Drifter’s Cloak. This upgrade lets Hornet rise on updrafts and descend slowly. Hornet starts with Hunter’s Cloak, so Drifter’s is the first of the two cloak upgrades covered here.

Clawline
Clawline is inside a Weaver Burial Spire beyond a lava course in The Cauldron, in the Underworks. The Hollow Knight Wiki describes two ways to reach the area: take a side passage in Whiteward, or use a lift that unlocks after defeating Trobbio.
An independent Silksong Wiki guide describes its route as requiring both Drifter’s Cloak and Cling Grip. That prerequisite should be understood as applying to that guide’s route, rather than as a universal requirement; the alternate access routes mean the exact sequence can depend on how the player reaches the area.

Faydown Cloak
Climb to the peak of Mount Fay. At the summit, play Needolin at the tuning fork; the Fayforn then grants Hornet its down, awarding Faydown Cloak. The upgrade gives Hornet an additional leap while airborne.
PC Gamer’s route guide describes Mount Fay as accessible through Choral Chambers in Act 2 and says Clawline is necessary for the climb. That is the intended route described by the guide; it is not a claim that every possible sequence or skip has been ruled out.

How the cloak upgrades fit together
Hornet begins with Hunter’s Cloak. Completing the Seamstress’s Flexile Spines Wish upgrades it to Drifter’s Cloak; reaching Mount Fay’s peak and receiving the Fayforn’s gift upgrades it again to Faydown Cloak. These are successive cloak improvements, with different movement effects: the first uses updrafts and slows descent, while the second adds an airborne leap.
Why this is not a complete all-abilities location list
The category also names six Crest-equipped Silk Skills—Silkspear, Thread Storm, Cross Stitch, Sharpdart, Rune Rage and Pale Nails—and Ancestral Arts including Swift Step, Cling Grip, Needolin, Clawline, Silk Soar and Sylphsong. Other listed entries include Bind, Silk Heart, Needle Strike, Drifter’s Cloak, Faydown Cloak, Farsight and Everbloom; Needolin-related entries also include Beastling Call and three named melodies.

Those category names show why “all abilities” is broader than “all traversal upgrades,” but the category overview does not establish exact acquisition locations for the remaining entries. This guide therefore limits its location claims to the five abilities with route details above rather than guessing at the rest.
