Rosaries are Pharloom’s currency. You use them to buy items from merchants and pay for some services or tolls. Costs and interactions vary, so check the price of the specific item or service rather than assuming every vendor interaction works the same way. Shell Shards: tools and selected donations
Shell Shards are crafting stock. They replenish Hornet’s Red Tools, with the cost depending on the tool. Replenishment normally happens when resting at a Bench; with the Architect Crest equipped, Craft Bind can replenish tools elsewhere for the same shard cost. The community-maintained reference also lists three Bone Bottom donation Wishes funded with Shell Shards: Bone Bottom Repairs (200), A Lifesaving Bridge (300), and An Icon of Hope (440). Can you lose Rosaries or Shell Shards when you die?
Loose Rosaries can roll along the ground after being dropped. The Rosaries reference warns that they can be destroyed if they fall into spikes or if Hornet leaves the room before collecting them. By contrast, the Silksong Wiki’s all-items catalog says Shell Shards are not lost when Hornet is defeated. That claim concerns defeat; it is not a guarantee about every unusual game state.

In practical terms, Rosaries are the balance to protect during a risky stretch. If you can make a useful purchase before a dangerous encounter, doing so may reduce the loose amount at stake. Shell Shards can be saved for tool replenishment or donations you care about. This is a strategy suggestion based on the documented mechanics, not a universally optimal route.

Rosaries can come from certain enemy drops, environmental structures and containers, hanging strings or caches, chests, breakable Rosary items, eligible relic sales, selected quest rewards, and exchanges. Finding Shell Shards
Shell Shards are found in natural deposits, containers and structures, breakable resource items, and drops from most enemies, according to the community reference. Treat that as a general pattern, not a promise that every enemy or object yields shards.
Rosary Strings and Shell Shard items: what are their values?
Rosary Strings and necklaces are inventory items that can be broken to convert them into Rosaries. Their redemption values are distinct from any vendor purchase price; the reference notes that some vendor sales of a string can cost more than its redemption value, so buying one for profit is not a sound assumption.
