The Great Conchflies are an optional Act 1 boss pair in the northwest of Blasted Steps. Watch for their ricocheting conch, stay ready to jump over a low Drill Dash, and use a corner position to manage several attacks. Beating them opens the route toward the Pinstress and Sands of Karak; one survivor returns later as the Raging Conchfly.
Where to find the Great Conchflies
The arena is in the northwest section of Blasted Steps: below the Blasted Steps Bellway and west of the central tall room. Look for a blue banner marked with crossed pins at the entrance. According to the Hollow Knight Wiki’s location guide, entering the room blocks its doorways and triggers the fight.
How to handle each attack
The Hollow Knight Wiki lists three shared attack patterns. Its names for them are mostly non-canon, so they are useful labels rather than confirmed in-game move names.

The wiki reports that returning a conch projectile deals 15 damage to a Great Conchfly. Its general positioning advice is to jump toward a wall and slide down into a corner; a floor-level Drill Dash can still reach you, so jump when you see one coming. The pair are optional in Act 1, but defeating them opens the route toward the Pinstress and Sands of Karak. Nintendo Life’s boss guide says they must be defeated to reach Act 3 because they block the path to Sands of Karak.

Prepare for the surviving Great Conchfly
When one Great Conchfly falls, the other retreats into the background and flees. The survivor later appears in Sands of Karak as the Raging Conchfly, according to the Hollow Knight Wiki. The Hunter’s Journal description, as transcribed by the wiki, reads: “Elder Conchfly crowned with a huge coral horn. Once partnered with a mate, they will rarely be seen alone.”
