What you need before going to Craw Lake
Get the Drifter’s Cloak before attempting the watermound gauntlet; it is required for the encounter. Thread Storm is found in a Weaver Burial Spire north of Craw Lake in Greymoor. The community-maintained Thread Storm page and PC Gamer’s route guide describe the unlock.
How to reach the Craw Lake gauntlet
- Go to Greymoor with the Drifter’s Cloak. The encounter is in the Craw Lake area, north of the lake.
- Find the enterable building at the dead end. For a more precise landmark, head east rather than west toward Bellhart, and continue past Shakra’s Greymoor map location. The route is described in PC Gamer’s guide.
- Enter the watermound and clear the waves. You will fight Craws, Tallcraws, and Squatcraws. The wave sequence includes combinations of these enemies and finishes with a Tallcraw and a Squatcraw. The game wiki’s Thread Storm page lists the encounter details.
How to get from the gauntlet to Thread Storm
- Strike the lever after the fight. It inflates balloons across eastern Greymoor.
- Climb by bouncing off the balloons. Use downward attacks to pogo off them and gain height, following the balloon route toward the upper area.
- Reach the Weaver Burial Spire. Continue through the platforming section to the shrine, then bind Thread Storm.
The lever and balloon route are described by PC Gamer and the community wiki. The gauntlet also opens access to other content, including Threefold Pin, a Spool Fragment, and a Bellshrine; those are additional rewards, not prerequisites for binding Thread Storm.
What Thread Storm does
Thread Storm whips Silk around Hornet to hit nearby enemies. The game wiki lists five hits for the initial attack and up to eleven when you repeatedly press the Skill/Tool input. It also says the attack destroys most weak projectiles. You equip Silk Skills through Hornet’s Crest, and they usually cost four Silk; with Egg of Flealia equipped, Thread Storm costs three Silk while Hornet is at full health. Quick activation or extended cast?
Repeated inputs extend Thread Storm without spending additional Silk, according to PC Gamer’s ability guide. Extending the animation can leave Hornet exposed to a counterattack, so the extra hits may be less useful when an enemy can punish the longer commitment. The best choice depends on the encounter: use the longer cast when you have room to finish it safely.

The wiki’s patch notes say Patch 3 (version 1.0.28891) slightly reduced Thread Storm damage at higher Needle levels. Patch 4 (version 1.0.29242) fixed damage tapering so additional hits no longer taper as sharply. As a result, older damage tables or advice may not reflect the current behavior. Damage totals depend on version and conditions, so avoid treating one number as universal. The changes are recorded on the Thread Storm page.
