Hollow Knight: Silksong is available on Nintendo Switch 2 as a Switch 2 Edition, released September 4, 2025. Nintendo advertises higher resolution, improved frame rates and additional effects; early hands-on reports describe smooth play, but they are not controlled performance tests and do not establish a locked 120 fps.

What is Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Silksong is Team Cherry’s full-scale sequel to Hollow Knight. You play as Hornet, exploring Pharloom, a new kingdom distinct from the first game’s setting. Team Cherry’s 2019 reveal explained that Hornet’s adventure began as a planned DLC project and grew into a full game; Nintendo’s current listing is the source for the present Switch 2 edition and its release details. Nintendo describes the play as exploration and agile combat, with crafted tools, weapons, traps and mechanisms, quests, and boss fights. Its product page lists more than 200 foes and more than 40 legendary bosses; those figures are Nintendo’s own content claims, not an independent count. The page also says Steel Soul mode becomes available after completing the kingdom. Nintendo’s Switch 2 product listing.

What do the Switch 2 hands-on impressions say?

Early-hours play

In an early-hours feature, Nintendo Life staff writer PJ O’Reilly called the game “very nice to look at” and said it “plays wonderfully smoothly on my Switch 2 so far.” That is one writer’s subjective impression from an initial session, not a guarantee of performance across the game or every display. TV mode and the 120Hz option

After brief Gamescom hands-on time on August 20, 2025, Nintendo Life’s Jim Norman also described the game as feeling smooth. He reported a TV mode option for displays that support 120Hz, with reduced resolution. The report cautioned that the mode does not, by itself, show that the game necessarily runs at 120 frames per second. A display’s refresh-rate support and a game’s actual frame rate are not the same thing; the available hands-on reporting does not establish a locked or consistent 120 fps. What does the Switch 2 Edition add?

Nintendo describes the Switch 2 edition as having higher resolution, improved frame rates and additional effects. These are Nintendo’s claims about the edition; the available sources do not give a controlled numerical comparison with the original Switch version. There is therefore no supported basis here for quoting a specific resolution, frame rate, or percentage improvement.

What should you check before buying?

  • Digital purchase: Confirm whether the store page is for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the original Switch game or an Upgrade Pack, and verify which base game the upgrade requires.
  • Physical purchase: Nintendo Life reported on May 29, 2026, that Team Cherry and Fangamer announced Switch 2 physical editions. Its report describes the Silksong Switch 2 edition as including the Switch game and Switch 2 upgrade pack. Confirm the current regional listing and package contents before ordering; the announcement report does not establish present stock or price. Nintendo Life’s physical-edition report.
  • Display choice: If considering the reported TV high-frame-rate option, check that your display supports 120Hz and bear in mind the reported resolution tradeoff. The available report does not promise 120 fps.
