Her most natural partner is Kafka, who can trigger DoTs before an enemy’s turn and help Black Swan build Arcana. The current Prydwen guide recommends Prisoner in Deep Confinement, about 120% Effect Hit Rate, then Speed and ATK, with Reforged Remembrance as the leading Light Cone recommendation. Treat those rankings as guide advice rather than universal rules: relic quality, teammates, encounter design and later balance changes can alter the best choice.
How Black Swan’s kit works
Arcana is the center of her damage
Black Swan applies Arcana, a damage-over-time effect that gains stacks. Arcana is treated as Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn and Shock for relevant interactions, allowing it to benefit from the broader DoT ecosystem rather than functioning as an isolated debuff.
Arcana deals its damage at the beginning of the affected enemy’s turn. After that damage, stacks are reduced rather than disappearing all at once, so Black Swan wants to keep applying Arcana while other DoTs create additional opportunities to increase its stack count.
Why other DoT characters matter
Black Swan’s loop is: apply Arcana, add stacks through her own actions and other DoT events, then let the enemy’s turn resolve the accumulated damage. A team with multiple DoT sources gives her more chances to build Arcana and makes her multi-type interactions meaningful.

Why Kafka is so important
Kafka can detonate existing DoTs outside their normal turn timing. That brings Arcana and the team’s other DoTs forward, produces more damage during the same cycle and helps Black Swan continue stacking. This is the main reason guides treat Kafka as Black Swan’s key teammate rather than merely one possible support.

Main-stat order
- Body: Effect Hit Rate.
- Feet: ATK%.
- Planar sphere: Wind DMG.
- Link rope: ATK%.
Substats and Speed targets
First reach roughly 120% Effect Hit Rate, the target cited by the current guide. After that, seek enough Speed to fit the role your team and encounter require, then add ATK%. The guide identifies 134 and 160 Speed as endgame breakpoints. They are useful targets, not mandatory thresholds for every account: a slower build with stronger relics or a different turn order can still perform well.
Trace priority
The guide’s order is Talent > Ultimate = Skill = Basic Attack. Among major Trace nodes, it prioritizes A6, then A4, then A2. Upgrade the Talent first because Arcana is the defining source of her damage, then bring the other core traces up according to available materials and team needs.

What is Black Swan’s best Light Cone?
Reforged Remembrance is the current Prydwen recommendation at the top of Black Swan’s Light Cone options. It is the strongest general recommendation in that guide, but it should not be treated as an automatic requirement for using her.

Light Cone rankings change with team context. In a multi-DPS DoT team, a supportive effect can be worth more than a selfish damage increase. Likewise, overlapping vulnerability or defense-reduction effects can reduce the marginal value of another cone with a similar debuff. Compare the complete team rather than selecting solely from a universal-looking tier list.
What teams work with Black Swan?
Core pairing: Kafka + Black Swan
Use Kafka and Black Swan when you want the most direct expression of Black Swan’s design. Black Swan supplies Arcana and other DoT pressure; Kafka detonates those effects and accelerates the team’s damage cycle. This pairing is the starting point for most team decisions.
High-investment four-character DoT team
The HSR-Build composition highlighted in the current material is:
- Kafka — DoT detonation and tempo.
- Black Swan — Arcana stacking and Wind Nihility damage.
- Hysilens — an additional DoT-focused damage source when available.
- Huohuo — sustain and team utility.
This setup maximizes the number of relevant DoT effects, but it assumes ownership and investment in several specific characters.
Use Ruan Mei when team support is more valuable
Ruan Mei is a strong adjustment when a support slot improves the whole roster more than a third DoT damage dealer would. Prydwen’s synergy notes point to her team damage and Speed benefits, which can improve turn order and overall DoT output.

Choose the sustain your account can use reliably
Do not force Huohuo if another sustain keeps the team alive more consistently or fits the encounter better. Black Swan’s damage depends on taking turns and allowing DoTs to resolve; a dependable sustain is more useful than a nominally optimal character who is unavailable, underbuilt or mismatched to the fight.

No, but Kafka is the most valuable partner for her standard DoT game plan. Black Swan can apply Arcana and deal damage without Kafka, especially when paired with another DoT source or a general support. Without Kafka’s detonations, however, much of the team’s damage waits for enemy turns, and Arcana receives fewer accelerated damage events. If you own Kafka, build around the pairing first; if you do not, prioritize reliable DoT application, Speed and a sustain/support combination your roster can actually field.
How to choose between Black Swan builds
- Check Effect Hit Rate. Aim for about 120% before chasing luxury damage stats. If relics cannot reach it, consider Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise.
- Set the turn order. Use the 134 or 160 Speed targets as guideposts, then adjust for Kafka’s timing, your support’s buffs and the encounter.
- Count your DoT sources. Kafka plus another DoT character generally gives Arcana more opportunities than a team built around Black Swan alone.
- Match the Light Cone to the whole team. Reforged Remembrance is the guide’s leading pick, while Eyes of the Prey can solve Effect Hit Rate and DoT needs at the same time.
- Keep the sustain dependable. Survival and uninterrupted turns matter more than copying a lineup your account cannot support.
What can change these recommendations?
Prisoner in Deep Confinement, the 120% Effect Hit Rate target, Speed breakpoints, Light Cone order and named team recommendations reflect the current specialist guide’s analysis. New characters, relics, balance changes and different game modes can shift their value. Re-evaluate the build when the roster or combat environment changes instead of treating any single ranking as permanent.
