In Honkai: Star Rail, pity is tracked separately for each Warp type—not as one shared pull counter. HoYoverse’s published rules set a 90-Warp 5-star limit for Character Event and Standard Warps, and an 80-Warp limit for Light Cone Event Warps. Event-Warp counts carry forward to later banners of the same type; Character Event and Light Cone Event counts do not combine.
How pity works
Pity is your accumulated Warp count toward that Warp type’s guaranteed 5-star. A hard guarantee is a maximum interval, not a prediction: being close to the limit does not mean the next Warp must produce a 5-star unless that Warp reaches the stated cap.
HoYoverse distinguishes a base rate from a consolidated rate. The base rate is the published chance for a single Warp before accounting for guarantees; the consolidated rate includes the effect of the guarantee across Warps. That is why the Character Event Warp’s 0.600% base rate and 1.600% consolidated rate are different figures, not competing claims.

Does pity carry over?
Yes, between later banners of the same event-Warp type. Character Event Warp progress carries to subsequent Character Event Warps, and Light Cone Event Warp progress carries to subsequent Light Cone Event Warps. The two counters do not share progress: pulls on a Character Event Warp do not advance Light Cone Event Warp pity, or vice versa.
Standard Warp has its own independent 90-Warp guarantee. HoYoverse also says the guarantee counts for Character Collaboration, Light Cone Collaboration, and Departure Warp are calculated independently. Do not treat those counts as pooled with the regular Character Event or Light Cone Event counters.
What the 4-star guarantee means
Character Event, Light Cone Event, and Standard Warps each guarantee a 4-star-or-higher item at least once every 10 Warps. This guarantees the rarity threshold, not a particular featured 4-star.

On Light Cone Event Warp, HoYoverse separately lists a 75% chance to receive one of the featured 4-star Light Cones when the result is a 4-star item. That is a featured-item chance, not a promise that every 4-star result will be featured.

How to read your counter
Example: 70 Character Event Warps without a 5-star
You are 70 Warps into that counter’s 90-Warp limit, so 20 more Warps would reach the stated cap if no 5-star arrives first. The figure does not mean a 5-star is guaranteed on your next Warp.

Example: a non-featured Light Cone
After a non-featured 5-star Light Cone on Light Cone Event Warp, the next 5-star Light Cone from that Warp is guaranteed to be featured. This guarantee state applies to that Warp type’s subsequent 5-star, not to a specific pull count before it appears.

Where to verify current banner details
Rates and featured items can be banner-specific, and rules may change. HoYoverse advises: “For the most accurate and specific information, including featured items and drop rates, tap the View Details button on the respective Warp screen in-game.” Check that screen for the active banner rather than assuming a particular featured-character percentage or importing a community estimate of when pity begins to rise. HoYoverse’s published articles establish the hard limits and rates above; they do not establish a soft-pity threshold.
