For the Version 4.6 build updated September 26, 2026, the recommended setup for Ruan Mei is Past Self in Mirror, the Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations Relic set, and Sprightly Vonwacq. Build Break Effect first, then tune Speed for your rotation; the cited guide targets 180% Break Effect, while other guides explain a 160% out-of-combat target under different trace assumptions.
What Ruan Mei does and why her build prioritizes Break Effect
Ruan Mei is a 5-star Ice character on the Harmony path who supports the team rather than serving as its primary damage dealer. Her Skill grants Overtone for three turns, increasing allies’ damage and Weakness Break Efficiency while it is active. Her Ultimate costs 130 Energy and creates a field that increases allies’ All-Type RES PEN. Attacks against enemies affected by the field apply Thanatoplum Rebloom: when an enemy tries to recover from Weakness Break, the effect extends the break and delays that enemy.
Her Talent increases the rest of the team’s Speed and deals Break damage when an ally breaks an enemy. Her A2 trace provides all allies with 20% Break Effect. Her A6 trace increases allies’ damage by 6% for every 10% of Ruan Mei’s Break Effect above 120%, up to 36%. These effects explain the emphasis on Break Effect, but a useful build also needs enough Speed and Energy to support the team’s rotation.

The current build guide recommends Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations with Sprightly Vonwacq as the planar ornament. It also lists Messenger Traversing Hackerspace and Thief of Shooting Meteor as Relic alternatives. Which setup works best depends on the team and the pieces available to you.

Substats and Break Effect targets
The Version 4.6 summary prioritizes Break Effect up to 180%, then Speed to the breakpoint you want, followed by HP/DEF and Effect RES. It notes 30% Effect RES when using Broken Keel. These are recommendations from that build guide, not a requirement shared by every team or equipment combination.
Build guides use different Break Effect targets because they describe different assumptions. The current summary uses 180%. Prydwen’s May 31, 2026 profile gives 160% out of combat as the minimum for the full A6 effect, and Icy Veins also describes 160% out of combat because A2 supplies the remaining 20% in battle. Prydwen’s build-calculation tracker says its major update was Patch 3.4, so its figures should be read in that context rather than as a newly recalculated Version 4.6 threshold. Prydwen gives 134 Speed as a minimum, 143 for rotation comfort, and 160+ for a hyperspeed setup, assuming Break Effect needs are met. Because its calculation tracker’s major update was Patch 3.4, use these as that guide’s landmarks, not guaranteed Version 4.6 breakpoints for every lineup.
Teams that use Ruan Mei
Ruan Mei can amplify Break-focused teams through her Break-related support, while her damage, Speed, and All-Type RES PEN benefits also appear in broader support lineups. The current guide lists these examples; none should be treated as the best lineup for every roster or game mode.
