For a broad October 2026 ranking, Aventurine, Huohuo, Hyacine, Lingsha, and Fu Xuan are the strongest all-round sustains in a recent Version 4.5 editorial list—but the best pick depends on your team and the mode you are playing. A sustain earns value through more than healing or shield strength: protection, cleansing, skill-point economy, buffs, energy, damage contribution, and team fit all count.
How this ranking works
This is an editorial all-around order, not an official in-game ranking or a single objective score. It uses a disclosed rubric: how reliably a character keeps a team alive; whether protection is broad, targeted, or reactive; access to cleanse or control; skill-point demands; buffs and energy; contribution to damage, follow-up attacks, or Break; ease of use; and fit across endgame modes.
That approach aligns with the Version 4.5 sustain guide published by HostedGG on 3 September 2026, which ranks total team value rather than healing throughput alone. Its placements below are that publisher’s opinions, not independently reproduced test results. Prydwen’s tier list, updated 1 October 2026, is a separate reference: it evaluates average performance in Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow using per-mode data, its own testing, and community feedback. The lists have different dates, scopes, and methods, so their rankings should not be mechanically combined.
Mode changes what a sustain needs to support. Prydwen describes Memory of Chaos as emphasizing blast and single-target damage, Pure Fiction as favoring AoE, and Apocalyptic Shadow as favoring single-target damage and Break potential. Investment and team building can also help lower-ranked characters perform well. As Prydwen puts it, “As new mechanics, characters and challenges are introduced each tier list will be updated.” Prydwen’s tier-list methodology

Every healer and shielder, ranked
The following order reproduces the placements in HostedGG’s Version 4.5 guide. It is a useful broad comparison, not a claim that every character in one tier is interchangeable or that the ordering holds for every team.
| Tier | Characters | What the placement means |
|---|---|---|

| B | Bailu, Lynx, March 7th, Natasha | Useful sustains, including options that can suit specific needs or early and free-to-play accounts. |

What makes each tier useful
S tier
- Aventurine: A recommended fit for follow-up or crit hypercarry teams. His value in those lineups is not captured by comparing heal totals alone.
- Huohuo: A high-ranked healer whose team value includes utility beyond raw healing. The guide also recommends her for debuff-heavy encounters.
- Hyacine: One of the guide’s top overall choices and a suggested option for Break or Super Break teams.
- Lingsha: A top-ranked sustain with a recommended fit for Break and Super Break lineups.
- Fu Xuan: A strong option for a greedy single-carry team, where supporting that central damage dealer is the priority.
A tier
- Luocha: A strong healer for debuff-heavy encounters and low-attention play, according to the guide’s team-fit recommendations.
- Gallagher: A recommended Break or Super Break option. The guide also lists him among the early or free-to-play choices.
- Gepard: Ranked in A tier in the Version 4.5 list, though that guide’s cited team-fit recommendations do not assign him a specific archetype.
B tier
- Bailu: Placed in B by the broad Version 4.5 guide. A separate healer-only guide ranks her higher, underscoring how much the comparison scope affects placement.
- Lynx: A healer-only option in the broad list; the Version 4.5 guide does not name a particular archetype fit for her.
- March 7th: Listed as an early or free-to-play option, as well as B-tier in the broad ranking.
- Natasha: Another early or free-to-play recommendation. Her B-tier placement in the broad list differs from her higher position in the older healer-only guide.
C tier
- Preservation Trailblazer: The guide places this older or free option in C tier; the label describes its position in that ranking, not whether it can function in a suitable team.
Choose by team need, not tier alone
HostedGG’s guide makes distinct team-fit recommendations. Treat these as starting points from one publisher rather than guaranteed best-in-slot outcomes: builds, encounters, and team composition still matter.
| Team need | Suggested sustains |
|---|---|
| Break or Super Break | Lingsha, Gallagher, or Hyacine |
| Follow-up or crit hypercarry | Aventurine |
| Greedy single-carry team | Fu Xuan |
| Debuff-heavy encounters | Huohuo or Luocha |
| Low-attention play | Luocha |
| Early or free-to-play account | Gallagher, March 7th, or Natasha |

Why healer-only rankings can look different
A healer list answers a narrower question than a sustain list that includes shielders. HSRZone’s healer-only guide, updated 16 April 2026, orders its healers as Luocha and Huohuo in S+, Bailu in S, Natasha in A, and Lynx in B. It considers skill-point efficiency, healing consistency, utility, and synergy, but does not place shielders in that ordered list. Its ratings are older than the October 2026 tier-list update and should be read as a healer-focused perspective, not as a current ranking of every sustain.

The contrast is instructive: Bailu, Natasha, and Lynx sit higher in the healer-only ordering than in HostedGG’s broader Version 4.5 list, while the latter includes shielders and values total team contribution. Neither ordering settles every healer-versus-shielder comparison. HSRZone’s healer tier list
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need a healer in every team?
No single healer is mandatory in every team, and “healer” is too narrow a test: a shielder or another sustain can fill the survival role. What matters is whether the team can survive the encounter while maintaining its damage plan. Consider the incoming threats, whether debuffs need to be removed, how much skill-point pressure the team can tolerate, and whether a sustain’s buffs or damage contribution support the chosen archetype.

For a roster decision, first identify the team’s survival gap, then compare eligible healers and shielders against that gap. A broad tier can guide your shortlist; it cannot replace checking mode and team fit.
