Longdue’s game is called Hopetown, and it is in development as a narrative RPG about a rogue journalist in a troubled mining town. The studio calls Disco Elysium one of its touchstones, but says the project draws on a broader CRPG tradition rather than serving as a direct successor. Longdue has not announced a release date or window.

What is Hopetown about?

Longdue describes Hopetown as its first project: a “psychogeographical RPG” set in a mining town facing collapse and reinvention. The player is a rogue journalist investigating a crisis involving deaths, missing people, halted mining operations and a family scandal. The studio says players may approach the story through gonzo journalism, conspiratorial manipulation or calculated investigation, with choices affecting the story, characters and environment. These are the developer’s descriptions of its intended game, not confirmed observations of finished gameplay. Longdue’s project page

How closely is it connected to Disco Elysium?

“Spiritual successor” is a useful shorthand for the creative connection, not an official claim that Hopetown continues Disco Elysium’s story or belongs to the same series. In its FAQ, updated May 22, 2026, Longdue says it is “not specifically honouring the legacy of any one game” and places the project within a wider CRPG lineage. The studio does name Disco Elysium as a touchstone, particularly for psychological complexity, intelligent storytelling, interiority and consequential conversations. Longdue says four writers who worked on Disco Elysium contributed to Hopetown. Longdue’s official FAQ

That connection is about creative influence and some contributors; the available official descriptions do not establish that the games share a setting, characters or narrative continuity. Longdue’s FAQ also describes its lineage as broader than a single predecessor.

What does “psychogeographical RPG” mean here?

Longdue uses “psychogeography” for a system in which internal states and conversations can affect progression and the surrounding world. The studio says emotions, memories and dialogue can take the place of conventional keys and levers: minds may unlock doors, alter landscapes or reshape relationships. It also says a journalist’s instincts can help or mislead the player. The precise rules and extent of these systems have not been established in the official descriptions, so they should be read as design intentions rather than a complete account of how the finished game will play. Who is making the game?

Longdue’s 2026 FAQ says four writers who worked on Disco Elysium contributed to Hopetown. At the project’s October 2024 announcement, The Guardian reported an initial team of 12, including people who had worked on Disco Elysium and its cancelled sequel, as well as former Bungie and Rockstar staff. That report also said lead designer and writer Robert Kurvitz and lead artist Aleksander Rostov were not involved. The 12-person figure describes the team at announcement, not its current size. Platforms, engine and planned languages

Longdue’s platform, engine and language details are plans, not guarantees of what will be available at launch. The studio’s FAQ says PC is the main development platform, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S planned. It describes Mac, Linux and other console versions as aspirations that may depend on community demand. The game is being made in Unity. Longdue plans English, Russian and Simplified Chinese at launch, and hopes to add French, Italian, German and Spanish as soon as possible afterward. Longdue’s official FAQ
