Guerrilla describes its combat as tactical, reactive and skill-based. The game is part of the Horizon universe and its story is canon. How do the missions and combat work?
Machine Incursion
This mode is a high-intensity mission built around waves of machines and a boss encounter.
Cauldron Descent
This longer trial takes Hunters through multiple stages, with changing rooms, machine encounters and hidden doors containing rewards.

Hunters and builds
Hunters have distinct melee or ranged playstyles and weapons. Roles and a rogue-lite perk system let players shape builds for missions. Guerrilla also announced Hunter customization, gear upgrades and vendors, alongside a social hub where players can meet between missions. The game includes a narrative campaign, and Guerrilla says its story will continue beyond launch. The announcement does not provide a complete Hunter roster or explain every progression system.

Does Horizon Hunters Gathering support cross-platform play?

When does Horizon Hunters Gathering release?
No release date is listed on the official PlayStation page; it says more information will be shared later. The page offers a wishlist and a route to sign up for playtest consideration, but signing up does not guarantee access. Playtest participation is described as confidential, and the page currently gives no dated schedule for upcoming tests. Check the official listing for changes.
A PlayStation Blog search result dated 5 May 2026 announced a second closed playtest running 22–25 May 2026, with two additional Hunters, a playable Episode, extra difficulty modes and the Breakers’ Bounty region. Do you need to play the other Horizon games first?
No. PlayStation says the story takes place after Horizon Forbidden West and is canon, but is designed to work as a standalone for newcomers.
