IO Interactive’s route to putting the Aston Martin Valhalla in 007 First Light began behind confidentiality agreements and led to a design challenge: make a Bond car feel thrilling without making Aston Martin’s real hypercar look misrepresented. T3’s interview with IO Interactive staff describes how that balance became the Valhalla Protocol, a post-launch TacSim driving mission.
Access to the Valhalla began under wraps
In a report published on 5 October 2026 for James Bond Day, T3 interviewed IO Interactive staff about the car’s path into the game. Art director Rasmus Poulsen recalled that the prerequisite to learning about Aston Martin’s then-unannounced Valhalla was “certainly 100 NDAs” or so. That is his approximate description, not a verified count of signed agreements.
The secrecy was part of a broader early decision to feature two Aston Martins. T3 says the team wanted a vintage DBS as well as the newest, most powerful Aston Martin that the company would make available to them. The report distinguishes a 2006 DBS used for Bond’s training from a 1970 DBS in a chase in Slovakia.
Making a Bond car without losing the Aston Martin
The Valhalla presented a specific creative tension: the car needed to work as an Aston Martin and as a vehicle in a Bond adventure. T3 reports that the team proposed weapons concealed beneath exterior panels, then discussed how far to push the design. Poulsen described the question as how to represent the car while bridging “over-the-top excitement and cool restraint.”

Mission game director Dominic Vega said the team wanted to “do the brand justice.” According to T3’s account, Aston Martin was receptive to the resulting direction. The goal was not simply to add gadgets; the team wanted the weapon design and the moment built around it to suit the hypercar and still deliver the heightened fantasy expected of Bond.
Playtesting added missiles to the plan
Machine guns were the first weapon idea. T3 reports that a playtest prompted the team to revisit the concept: someone suggested that Q’s assistant announce “missiles unlocked” over the intercom. The idea led to a revision of the weapon concepts and brought missiles into the design.

- Pullback Car from Hong Kong manufacturer Kinsmart
- No box
That detail captures how the collaboration worked as described in the interview. The team began with a restrained approach to arming the car, then used playtesting to find a more entertaining escalation. T3 says Aston Martin approved the direction; it does not provide a separate account from the manufacturer.

T3 describes the Valhalla Protocol as a new TacSim mission in a post-launch update for 007 First Light. It centers on driving the Aston Martin through four missions in the Slovakian mountains, with sequences set by day and by night. The same update is reported to add New Game Plus and other TacSim content.
