1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA running back injury can lower the player’s expected availability or workload while opening opportunities for teammates—but it does not automatically make one backup a replacement for all of the injured player’s fantasy production. Check the latest status and practice report, estimate how the team may divide the work, then compare the options using your league’s scoring and roster rules.
What an injury designation tells you—and what it does not
The NFL defines Questionable as uncertain whether a player will play, Doubtful as unlikely to play and Out as not playing. Practice participation is reported separately. Those labels communicate availability, not a fantasy-points deduction or a precise workload forecast. See the NFL injury report policy and the NFL’s explanation of injury designations.
Do not treat a status label as a projection by itself. Update the player’s likely chance of playing and expected role as new injury and practice information arrives. NFL Fantasy says its projections incorporate player news, injury updates and trends, but its projection page opened with 2025 season parameters; it does not provide current 2026 player values. Check current projections and news close to your lineup deadline at NFL Fantasy projections.
How to estimate the effect on the injured back and teammates
Reassess the injured player’s availability and workload
Start with the latest official injury report and practice participation, then judge whether the player is likely to be available and how much work he could reasonably handle. A player who suits up may still have a reduced role; the designation alone does not establish that outcome or quantify it. No universal published point deduction for an injured running back is established by the sources here.

Look for a committee, not just a successor
Check the team’s current depth chart and recent role evidence to identify which backs could benefit. A depth chart shows listed roles, not guaranteed touches. The starter’s carries and receiving work may be split among multiple teammates, so do not transfer all of his previous production to one backup automatically. NFL depth charts are available at NFL team pages.
Historical “Probable” data is not a current Questionable forecast
An NFL Competition Committee article reported that approximately 95 percent of players designated Probable in prior years played. The league eliminated that designation because it offered little useful distinction. That historical figure does not estimate the chance that a player listed Questionable today will play.

How to make the waiver and lineup decision
- Check the official injury report and practice participation. Use the latest team and league updates rather than relying on an older designation alone.
- Revise the injured player’s expected role. Account for both availability and possible workload limits; do not apply a fixed points penalty just because of the label.
- Identify the backs who could absorb work. Check the current depth chart and whether the team’s usage suggests a shared role. Treat listed position as evidence, not a touch guarantee.
- Compare the options in your league’s context. Weigh expected availability, projected opportunity, receiving role, scoring format, matchup and time horizon—this week or the rest of the season—against the best player already on your roster. NFL Fantasy offers week and rest-of-season comparison tools at its projection page.
- Match the pickup to your league’s cost. Waiver priority, FAAB, scoring and roster size vary by league, so the available sources do not support a universal bid. Consider how much the player helps relative to the roster spot or budget you would give up.
- Recheck close to kickoff. NFL Fantasy says teams designate inactives about 90 minutes before kickoff. Keep a viable bench option or set up an auto-swap if your platform supports it, and confirm that platform’s rules.
When should you start a questionable running back?
There is no reliable yes-or-no answer from the designation alone. Compare the player’s latest availability information and expected role with your alternatives, using your scoring format and the value of the roster spot. If you cannot verify that he is active before kickoff, make sure a playable bench option can replace him under your fantasy platform’s lineup rules. Injury reports, depth charts and usage can change near game time, so recheck them before the lineup locks.
