AION 2 has eight announced classes and two named player factions: Elyos and Asmodians. But faction identity does not determine every PvP team. NCSOFT’s updates through March 25, 2026, describe different rules for different activities: some match by race, some assign players to server-level forces, and one announced mode permits same-faction fights.
What classes are in AION 2?
NCSOFT’s June 4, 2025 reveal named eight classes and gave each a short description. Those descriptions are a broad introduction to the classes, not a current balance ranking or a guarantee of how a class performs in every activity.
| Class | NCSOFT’s reveal description | What that suggests when choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Powerful, wide-area skill attacks. | A damage identity focused on attacks that can cover an area. |
| Templar | Core tanking role. | A defensive, frontline-oriented role for players drawn to tanking. |
| Assassin | Precision-based melee specialist. | Close-range combat with an emphasis on precision. |
| Marksman | Long-range scout class. | A ranged identity; check current in-game descriptions for details of its abilities. |
| Sorcerer | High burst magic damage. | Magic damage described around burst, rather than a claim about current output. |
| Spiritmaster | Optimized for solo play. | A class the reveal positioned toward solo play; that does not mean it is only for solo content. |
| Cleric | Improved damage capabilities. | The reveal used comparative wording, not a current damage ranking. |
| Chanter | Versatile support with multiplayer utility. | A support-oriented option for players interested in group utility. |
These are NCSOFT’s June 4, 2025 launch-reveal descriptions. They are useful for narrowing down a preferred style—tank, area or burst damage, precision melee, ranged combat, solo orientation, or support—but do not establish which class is strongest now. The available official updates do not support a current tier list or a claim that a class performs equally well in PvE and PvP.
How should you choose a class?
Start with the kind of combat you want to do, then check the current skill descriptions and patch notes for the activity you care about. The reveal’s labels are broad; they are not detailed build recommendations.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Want to tank? Templar is the class NCSOFT identified with the core tanking role.
- Prefer damage? The reveal points to different styles: Gladiator’s wide-area attacks, Assassin’s precision melee, Marksman’s long-range identity, and Sorcerer’s burst magic. Cleric was also described as having improved damage capabilities, but that phrase does not establish a present-day ranking.
- Expect to play solo? Spiritmaster was positioned as optimized for solo play. That is not a statement that it cannot be used in groups.
- Prefer helping a group? Chanter was described as versatile support with multiplayer utility. The reveal does not specify an exact current set of buffs or group effects.
Class balance and combat rules can change. For example, NCSOFT’s January 21, 2026 Season 2 announcement included adjustments focused on Templar and Cleric. That dated change is not enough to infer either class’s October 2026 strength.
Who are the Elyos and Asmodians?
Elyos and Asmodians are AION 2’s two named player factions. In its June 4, 2025 reveal, NCSOFT described them as starting in separate regions, with the story developing toward large-scale Realm-versus-Realm conflict. That setting establishes the familiar faction rivalry, but it does not mean every activity assigns teams according to faction.

Are Elyos and Asmodians always matched against each other in PvP?
No. NCSOFT’s dated announcements describe several different team-assignment rules. “Faction PvP” is not a reliable shorthand for how every mode forms its sides.
| Activity or rule | Team assignment described by NCSOFT | What to take from it |
|---|---|---|
| Spacetime Rift | Race-based matchmaking, according to NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update. | Here, race identity remains relevant to matchmaking. |
| Chaotic Abyss | Players join server-level West or East forces regardless of race, according to the March 25, 2026 update. | The opposing forces are not simply the two races; players’ faction alignment does not determine which of these forces they join. |
| Abyss of Chaos | NCSOFT’s February 23, 2026 announcement said the mode allows same-faction matchups, including Elyos versus Elyos and Asmodian versus Asmodian. | Same-faction PvP is documented for this mode; it should not be generalized to every Abyss activity. |
These are rules described in specific announcements, not a guarantee that the modes still operate unchanged. The latest class and PvP system update covered here is dated March 25, 2026; it does not establish October 2026 balance, queues, schedules, regional differences, or later changes. Check current in-game mode descriptions and official patch notes before relying on a particular live rule.

Can Elyos and Asmodians play together?
For PvE, NCSOFT announced that cross-faction parties became available on March 11, 2026: Elyos and Asmodian characters could form PvE groups, with limited communication in those settings. This documents an exception to a strict faction divide for those cooperative activities; it does not establish unrestricted cross-faction grouping in PvP or every part of the game.

The dated update history helps explain why an early class description or faction rule should not be treated as timeless.

- January 21, 2026 — Season 2: NCSOFT described encounters in Lower and Middle Abyss Reshanta and faction-wide buffs for Artifact Siege. The announcement is a snapshot of that season, not a current schedule. It also noted class adjustments focused on Templar and Cleric.

- March 11, 2026 — cross-faction PvE: Elyos and Asmodians could form PvE parties, with limited communication in those settings.
- March 25, 2026 — class and combat update: NCSOFT announced new Stigma skills for all eight classes and up to five Stigma slots. The update also named Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry, and said PvP and PvE damage calculations were separated.
The March update also reported a 30-second restriction on consecutively applying Immune and Immortal effects. That specific timing belongs to the update’s described combat rules; it should not be read as evidence of the current October 2026 implementation.
