That figure was published on January 29, 2013; it is not a confirmed estimate of the space every PS3 copy needs today.
What the 12.8 GB figure means
PlayStation.Blog listed Call of Duty: Black Ops II as a PSN title with a 12.8 GB file size in its US PlayStation Store update dated January 29, 2013. See the original PlayStation Store update.
This is a historical listing for the digital download. It does not establish the current download size, the total space needed after updates or add-ons, or the installation footprint of a disc copy.
Digital download versus disc
| Storage question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Digital download | 12.8 GB in the US PlayStation Store listing published January 29, 2013; current size is not stated by that listing. |
| Disc installation | The Activision PS3 manual says to insert the disc to start the game, but does not state an installation size. Read the PS3 manual. |
| Saved data | The manual says PS3 software saved data is stored on the system hard disk; it does not give a size. |
| Updates and additional content | The sources do not state their current sizes or a combined total. |
How much space should you have free?
The sources confirm a 12.8 GB historical digital listing, but do not provide a reliable current total that includes updates or additional content. For a disc copy, they confirm disc launch and hard-disk save data, but do not quantify any installation or saved-data footprint. So 12.8 GB is a useful reference for the old digital listing, not a guaranteed storage requirement for every way of playing today.
