The PS5 Slim package is smaller at roughly 17 × 14 × 7 inches for the Disc Edition or 17 × 14 × 6.5 inches for the Digital Edition. A reported PS5 Pro carton is about 18.4 × 14 × 7 inches. These are retail-package estimates, not one universal Sony specification; check the exact model, bundle and region before measuring a tight space.
PS5 box dimensions at a glance
The figures below describe approximate retail-box dimensions, not the console alone or a delivery carton. Retail-package measurements are not published as one universal Sony standard, and dimensions may be listed in a different order by different sellers.
| Model and edition | Approximate retail-box dimensions | How to interpret the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Original PS5 Disc Edition | 18.5 × 17 × 7 in (47 × 43 × 18 cm) | Approximate launch-era package estimate; reported by Android Authority and Position Is Everything. |
| Original PS5 Digital Edition | 18.5 × 16.9 × 6.9 in (47 × 43 × 17.5 cm) | Approximate launch-era package estimate; reported by Position Is Everything. |
| PS5 Slim Disc Edition | About 17 × 14 × 7 in (43 × 36 × 18 cm) | Reported retail-package estimate; not a Sony-wide official carton specification. Source: Position Is Everything. |
| PS5 Slim Digital Edition | About 17 × 14 × 6.5 in (43 × 36 × 16.5 cm) | Reported retail-package estimate; packaging varies by market and bundle. Source: Position Is Everything. |
| PS5 Pro | About 18.4 × 14 × 7 in (46.7 × 35.5 × 17.8 cm) | Reported carton estimate, not an official universal Sony package dimension. Source: Uptogo. |
If you only need a safe space estimate, allow at least 19 × 18 × 8 inches for an original PS5, 18 × 15 × 8 inches for a Slim, or 19 × 15 × 8 inches for a Pro. These are planning dimensions with some clearance, not manufacturer specifications.
Original PS5: Disc versus Digital box
The original Disc and Digital Edition boxes are nearly the same footprint. The Digital Edition package is only slightly slimmer in the reported measurements, because both versions still need room for the controller, cables, protective packaging and console. For a shelf, closet or car, plan around roughly 47 cm across, 43 cm high and 18 cm deep rather than expecting a compact box just because the console has no disc drive.

Sony’s 2020 announcement lists the original console itself at 390 × 104 × 260 mm for the Disc Edition and 390 × 92 × 260 mm for the Digital Edition; those are console dimensions, not box dimensions. See Sony’s launch specifications.
PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro packaging
PS5 Slim
Sony introduced the smaller 2023 PS5 design with a 1 TB storage configuration. The console measures 358 × 96 × 216 mm for the Disc Edition and 358 × 80 × 216 mm for the Digital Edition, according to the dimensions in Sony’s PS5 manual. The retail box estimates are larger than the console and can vary with region or bundle. Sony Australia’s listing, for example, gives the Slim carton a height of 37 cm and a carton weight of 8.37 kg, but does not show all three carton dimensions on the page: Sony Australia product listing.
PS5 Pro
Sony lists the PS5 Pro console at approximately 388 × 89 × 216 mm and 3.1 kg. It has no built-in disc drive; the compatible drive is sold separately. Those console specifications do not establish the carton size. The roughly 46.7 × 35.5 × 17.8 cm Pro package figure is a reported product-listing estimate, so confirm your seller’s package measurements if space is tight. Sony’s console information is in its PS5 Pro guide.

How much does a boxed PS5 weigh?
For launch-era original models, reported packaged weights are roughly 14–15 lb for the Disc Edition and around 13–14 lb for the Digital Edition, though some listings put them closer together. These are approximate package figures, not console weights; Android Authority reports the original PS5 dimensions and weight information here.
Do not assume one weight applies to every Slim or Pro box. Listings may mean console weight, retail package weight or shipping weight, and accessories and regional packaging can differ. Sony Australia lists a Slim Digital console weight of 3.87 kg and a carton weight of 8.37 kg. That carton figure is substantially higher than some North American retail listings, so treat it as a region- and listing-specific measurement rather than combining it with other package estimates.
What comes inside the box?
Contents depend on the model, region and bundle. Sony’s U.S. listing for one Digital Edition package specifies a console, DualSense controller, two horizontal-placement feet, HDMI cable, AC power cord, USB cable, manual and pre-installed Astro’s Playroom; it identifies that particular product as an 825 GB model. See the Sony product listing. Slim, launch-era, bundled and Pro packages need not contain identical items.

The box has to accommodate more than the console’s outer dimensions: it also holds accessories, internal protective trays and documentation. The vertical stand should not be assumed to be included; check the exact package listing.
Will the PS5 box fit in a car, suitcase or closet?
Car trunk or back seat
Most cars can carry a PS5 box, but the opening may be the limiting factor. A compact sedan’s trunk can have enough internal volume yet still be difficult to load because the original box is broad and flat. Measure the narrowest trunk opening and the usable space behind the seat, not only the vehicle’s advertised cargo volume. Keep the box supported and avoid stacking heavy luggage on top.

A normal backpack is not a realistic fit for the original retail box. A standard carry-on suitcase may also be too small: the original package is about 47 cm wide and 43 cm high. A large checked suitcase may fit some packages, but airline size and weight limits are separate and change by carrier; confirm the current rules with your airline. For travel, removing the retail box and protecting the console and accessories separately may be more practical, subject to airline and customs requirements.

Closet or cabinet
Measure the usable interior and the door or cabinet opening. Leave 1–2 inches of clearance to slide the package in and out, and add more if it has a sleeve, bundle contents or outer carton. A cabinet lip or narrow door can make nominal interior dimensions misleading.

For shipping an original PS5 retail box, a carton around 22 × 20 × 10 inches can be a starting estimate, depending on orientation and cushioning. It is a packing recommendation, not a Sony specification. Measure the actual package before buying a carton.
- Measure the retail box’s length, width and height at their widest points.
- Choose a strong outer carton that leaves about 2 inches of cushioning space on each side as a practical starting point; more may be needed for the materials and route.
- Cushion the retail box so it cannot shift, and use a sturdy carton rather than putting a shipping label directly on the retail packaging.
- Check that the closed carton protects corners and does not compress the retail box; recalculate if the console is bundled or already inside a delivery carton.
The final outer carton’s dimensions and shipping weight will exceed the retail package’s. Retail, shipping and master-carton measurements are not interchangeable.

Why PS5 box measurements differ online
A listed number may describe the console, the retail package, an outer delivery carton or a bulk master carton. Weight can likewise mean the bare console, packaged product or shipping weight. Retailers may round measurements or carry forward original-model data when listing a newer revision.
- Generation and edition: original, Slim and Pro packages differ; Disc and Digital editions are not identical.
- Bundle and region: extra accessories and local package configurations can change dimensions or weight.
- Measurement order: length, width and height may be arranged differently between listings.
- Console versus carton: Sony’s official console dimensions are not box dimensions.
When ordering a replacement box, verify both the console generation and edition, plus whether the original internal inserts are included. A similar outside measurement does not guarantee the inserts will fit.
