How are critics scoring High on Life 2?
The two reported scores describe different moments, not a contradiction. Windows Central’s February 12, 2026 roundup put the game at 75 on Metacritic ahead of its February 13 release, citing review scores from 6/10 to 9/10. The Metacritic page accessed October 8, 2026, displayed a 71 Metascore based on 29 critic reviews and classified it as “Mixed or Average.”

Humor and a larger scope
Windows Central’s roundup said reviewers frequently praised the game’s humor, distinctive identity and expanded scope. Those are themes in the outlet’s summary, not evidence that every critic agreed.

Familiarity and technical roughness
The roundup also noted complaints about bugs and technical rough edges. Some reviewers felt the sequel did not substantially evolve the original game’s formula. Taken together, the early coverage suggested a follow-up with recognizable comic appeal and a broader reach, but not a consensus that its changes transformed the experience. What changes in the sequel?
Skateboarding is the sequel’s signature addition, designed to serve both as a way to move through levels and as part of combat. In an Xbox Wire interview, Squanch Games Chief Design Officer Erich Meyr described grinding rails, jumping over objects and attacking enemies with the board. That is the studio’s account of the mechanic, rather than an independent assessment of how well it works in play.

Meyr traced the idea back to an early concept: “The earliest inspiration for the skateboard came back in High On Life when Concept Artist Sean McNally drew the bounty hunter riding a roly-poly type of alien,” Xbox Wire’s interview with Meyr
When did it launch, and on which platforms?
High on Life 2 launched on February 13, 2026. Xbox Wire listed Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with day-one availability through Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Play Anywhere support. This confirms the launch offer; it does not establish whether the game remains in the Game Pass catalog now.
