Zach Ertz and Johnny Mundt are expected to share the replacement work. NBC Sports views Ertz as a possible TE2; it does not rate either tight end as an especially appealing start.
What Goedert’s Week 4 status means
The NFL’s official Week 4 injury report lists Goedert as out with a knee injury after no practice participation. The Eagles’ injury report likewise lists him as a DNP with a knee injury. Those designations establish his status for this game, not a timetable for his return. Check the NFL Week 4 injury report and the Eagles injury report for updates; a Week 4 status should not be carried forward to another week.
Who benefits from Goedert being out?
Zach Ertz
NBC Sports’ October 2 Week 4 report identifies Ertz as one of the players expected to replace Goedert. It considers Ertz a possible TE2 based on his history and the team’s target situation, while cautioning that he is not an especially appealing option. That is one outlet’s week-specific assessment, not a universal ranking or a numeric projection.
Johnny Mundt
Mundt is also expected to take part in the replacement work. The Eagles depth chart lists him alongside Ertz, but a depth-chart listing does not establish either player’s snaps, routes, or target share against the Rams. The available reports do not verify a reliable Week 4 route forecast or individual fantasy-point line for Mundt.

So if you are asking “Who benefits?” the supported answer is that Philadelphia’s tight end room has more opportunity, with Ertz and Mundt expected to share it. There is not enough evidence to call either one the dependable individual winner. The NBC Sports Week 4 update names both as replacements, and the Eagles depth chart provides roster context rather than a game-specific workload split.
How to decide whether to start Ertz or Mundt
If both are available, compare them with your other options using information current to game day. The supplied Week 4 reports do not establish a verified route projection or numeric comparison for Ertz and Mundt, so avoid treating the depth chart as a forecast.

- Expected snaps and routes: Use current game-week reports if they provide a meaningful update; none of the cited sources establishes a reliable split.
- Targets and red-zone chances: A shared replacement role does not tell you how many opportunities either player will receive.
- Scoring: Reception bonuses or tight-end-premium scoring can change the value of a short-target option.
- Your alternatives: Compare Ertz and Mundt with available waiver or bench tight ends rather than choosing solely because Goedert is absent.
- Availability: Recheck active/inactive news before kickoff.
For a manager choosing between these two, Ertz has the clearer cited case as a cautious TE2 candidate. That does not make him a strong start over a better option on your roster, and the reports do not establish a distinct fantasy recommendation for Mundt.
Why an absence does not translate into one-for-one points
A 2026 Slate Stats analysis of regular-season games from 2018 onward compared players with their own trailing four-game form and controlled for what happened when a team’s leading tight end played. It found an average gain of 0.492 receptions for the tight end room across 1,024 observations (t = 9.57). This is a multi-team historical result, not an Eagles-specific forecast for Ertz or Mundt.

In the same analysis, receivers averaged a gain of 0.107 receptions across 2,160 observations (t = 2.29), while running backs averaged a change of -0.045 receptions across 1,259 observations (t = -0.92). Slate Stats also reports that tested clues—including depth order, snap share, route depth, and trailing targets—correlated only about r = 0.02 with which teammate gained. Its estimate that one player takes “about 60%” of vacated production refers to an individual week’s share, not a reliable way to identify that player in advance. These figures describe the analysis, not official NFL statistics or a direct fantasy-points projection. See Slate Stats’ Goedert injury-impact analysis.

The cited Week 4 reports establish that Goedert is out for the Rams game with a knee injury. They do not provide a return date, a medical prognosis, or a basis for assigning a later-week status. For a future matchup, rely on that week’s injury report rather than treating this absence as an ongoing designation.
