To change a game’s launch options in the EA app, open Library or My Collection, open the game’s three-dot menu, choose View properties, enter the command under Advanced launch options, and select Save. The command itself must be supported by that specific game.
Change launch options in the EA app
- Open the EA app on Windows.
- Open Library or My Collection.
- Find the game and open its three-dot menu.
- Select View properties.
- Find Advanced launch options.
- Enter the launch argument, then select Save.
- Launch the game normally through the EA app.
EA app labels can vary slightly between releases or library views. This is the current EA app route; older Origin guides may instead mention Game Properties.
What launch options do
Launch options are command-line arguments passed to a game as it starts. Depending on the title, they can select a graphics API, enable a developer console, apply a frame-rate limit, force windowed or borderless mode, enable diagnostic behavior, or help troubleshoot a startup problem.

They are not universal performance settings. A command may be undocumented, obsolete, ignored, incompatible with a particular version, or restricted by anti-cheat. The EA app provides the field, but the game determines which arguments it accepts. EA also says that the EA app does not support every advanced command that worked in Origin: EA community guidance.

How to enter one or more commands
A single argument might look like this:

+fps_max 144For multiple arguments, commands are usually separated by spaces:
-command-one -command-two +setting valueThese are syntax examples, not universal EA commands. Follow the documentation for your specific game and version. Some options use a hyphen, others use a plus sign; some require a value, quotation marks around paths containing spaces, special characters, or a particular order. Do not add quotation marks or punctuation unless the game’s instructions require them.
Example: an Apex Legends launch option
An EA community solution documents this Apex Legends example:

Edit or remove launch options
To change an existing option, return to the game’s View properties page, select the text in Advanced launch options, replace or edit it, and select Save. Restart the game afterward.
To remove all options, delete everything in the field, select Save, fully close the game and EA app, then launch again. This is the first recovery step if a newly added argument prevents the game from starting.
How to check whether an option worked
The EA app generally does not show a universal confirmation that a command was accepted. Verify it according to what the command is supposed to do:

- A frame-rate limit can be checked with the game’s performance overlay or a trusted monitoring tool.
- A developer-console option may expose a console or additional menu.
- A troubleshooting argument may only be verified by whether the original error changes.
A command remaining in the saved text field does not prove that the game recognized it.

If Advanced launch options is missing
- Make sure you are using the current EA app, not an old Origin walkthrough.
- Open the game’s own three-dot menu and choose View properties; do not open Windows shortcut properties.
- Confirm that the game is installed and visible in the EA app library.
- Restart and update the EA app.
- Clear the app cache through Help → App recovery → Clear cache. On Windows 10 or 11, App Recovery can also be opened from the EA folder in the Start menu. See EA’s cache instructions.
- Try repairing the game from its three-dot menu by selecting Repair. EA documents this for games that fail to load; see EA’s repair guidance.
Clearing the cache may help with EA app state, library, download, or update problems, but it does not validate a command or guarantee that the launch-options field will appear.
If the option saves but disappears
Players have reported the EA app losing saved advanced launch options in EA community discussions. Use the in-app field whenever it is available and repeat the save after restarting the app.
Some forum users have described unofficial workarounds involving EA Desktop configuration files, EALaunchHelper.exe, or a custom origin2://game/launch/ URI. These are not standard EA support procedures, are version-sensitive, and may stop working after an app update. If you attempt a title-specific workaround, back up the relevant files first and keep a clear rollback path. Do not make EA configuration files read-only as a first-line fix.
If the game will not launch afterward
- Open View properties again.
- Delete the argument you just added.
- Select Save.
- Fully restart the EA app and try again.
- Use the game’s three-dot menu and select Repair.
- Clear the EA app cache.
- Check the game’s official support documentation for the correct command and supported game versions.
- If the problem remains, submit information through the EA Error Reporter.
Do not assume that a command documented for an older patch, beta branch, or different executable remains valid.

EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store launch options
Use the launch-options field belonging to the platform that actually starts the game. If Steam launches the game, Steam’s Launch Options field may be the relevant location. If Epic Games Store starts it, Epic’s launch-argument setting may matter instead. The EA app may still open for authentication or EA services, and behavior varies by title, so follow the game’s official instructions.
A command documented for Steam should not automatically be copied unchanged into the EA app. The same warning applies to Epic and older Origin instructions.

A Windows shortcut can sometimes provide a title-specific workaround when the EA app field is unavailable, but it is not the preferred general method. The shortcut may start an EA helper rather than the game itself, and EA installation paths, offer IDs, URI syntax, and authentication requirements vary. Updates can also invalidate it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Origin launch commands in the EA app?
Not necessarily. Some may work, but EA says the EA app does not support all advanced commands that Origin supported. Check the game’s current documentation.
Do launch options work for every EA game?
No. The field may be present even when a game ignores a particular argument. Patches, anti-cheat, online services, and game-specific launchers can affect compatibility.
Can launch options disable anti-cheat?
Do not assume that they can or that doing so is supported. Anti-cheat behavior is game-specific, and unsupported parameters may be rejected or prevent online play.

Is there a Mac equivalent?
The EA app supports macOS 10.15.8 or later, but the researched instructions primarily verify the launch-options path for Windows. A game’s own macOS documentation should take precedence.
