To change a child or teen’s Xbox family settings, use Microsoft Family Safety or family.microsoft.com for screen-time schedules, and use the Xbox family tools for privacy and online safety. On the console, family-member management is under Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members. The right route depends on whether you want to change screen time, content, spending, communication, or family membership.

Change Xbox screen-time limits

Screen-time limits are managed through the Microsoft family website or Microsoft Family Safety app for a child who has already been added to your family group. You can set a daily allowance and permitted time ranges by day. Limits apply only to devices connected to that family group.

On the Microsoft Family Safety app

  1. Open Microsoft Family Safety and select the family member’s tile.
  2. Select Windows/Xbox.
  3. Choose the device and set its time limit.
  4. Select a day to adjust the allowed time range and total hours for that day.

On the family website

  1. Sign in at family.microsoft.com as an organizer in the family group.
  2. Select the family member, then open the Windows or Xbox tab.
  3. Edit the daily schedule or time limit.

For Xbox usage, remind the child to sign out when finished. Microsoft says time continues to count while the user remains signed in, even if they are not actively using the console. See Microsoft’s screen-time instructions for current details.

Change privacy and online-safety settings

Xbox says a parent using the family-group feature can change a child account’s Xbox privacy and online settings. Its family hub describes controls for privacy, online purchases, content filters, and screen time. Start there or use Microsoft’s Family Safety setup and privacy guidance to reach the current account controls.

Privacy, communication, spending, and content settings are separate from screen-time schedules. Their exact labels and steps can depend on the account interface, so use the current Microsoft or Xbox controls rather than assuming every option is in the same console menu.

Manage family members on the Xbox console

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members.
  3. Select the family member and choose the available management action.

Microsoft documents this route in its guidance for removing members from an Xbox family group. Removing a member may require removing consent online at the family site first. Console labels can change, so if the menu differs, use Microsoft’s current support guidance.
