For most Ubisoft games bought through Steam, there is no separate Ubisoft activation code to retrieve. Steam usually confirms ownership digitally when you launch the game from your Steam Library, while Ubisoft Connect links the purchase to your Ubisoft account.
First check Library → right-click the game → Manage → CD Keys. If Steam does not show that option or no key is listed, install or update Ubisoft Connect, sign into the correct Ubisoft account, and launch the game from Steam.

Check whether Steam issued a CD key
Some Steam games provide an additional key for registration with a third-party launcher. Steam says the key normally becomes available after the game download has begun or the game has been installed.
- Open the Steam desktop client.
- Open Library.
- Right-click the Ubisoft game.
- Select Manage.
- Select CD Keys.
If a key appears, copy it and use it only where the game specifically asks for a Ubisoft activation key. Do not enter it into Steam’s Activate a Product on Steam… option unless the key is explicitly intended for Steam. That Steam menu is for registering an external key to Steam; it does not reveal a key for a game you already purchased there.

If CD Keys is missing, blank, or unavailable, that usually means the title does not provide a separate Steam-issued key. It does not, by itself, mean your purchase is defective. Steam recommends starting the download, verifying the game files, and restarting the Steam client if a key should be available but does not appear. See Steam’s activation-key guidance.
If Steam shows no key, activate the game through Steam
Most current Ubisoft games purchased directly through Steam use an automatic digital entitlement rather than a visible code. Ubisoft support guidance says the license is generally linked to the Ubisoft account used during the first launch.
- Install or update Ubisoft Connect PC.
- Sign in with the Ubisoft account you intend to keep using.
- Start the game from your Steam Library.
- Allow Steam and Ubisoft Connect to complete the account-linking process.
- After the first successful launch, check whether the game appears in your Ubisoft Connect library.
For the first activation, do not launch a copied executable, desktop shortcut, or the game directly from Ubisoft Connect. Steam needs to provide the ownership signal, while Ubisoft Connect handles the Ubisoft account and launcher entitlement. Once linking is complete, follow the launch behavior shown by that particular game.

How to fix an “Enter activation code” prompt
If Ubisoft Connect asks for a code even though you bought the game on Steam, treat the prompt as an account-linking, launcher, or entitlement problem unless Steam actually displays a key.

- Close Ubisoft Connect completely. Exit it from the system tray so it is not still running in the background.
- Exit Steam and restart both applications.
- Check your accounts. Make sure Steam is signed into the account that owns the game and Ubisoft Connect is signed into the intended Ubisoft account.
- Update Ubisoft Connect to the current version.
- Launch the game from Steam again.
- If the problem continues, try running Steam and Ubisoft Connect with administrator rights.
- Clear the Ubisoft Connect cache. A corrupted or stale launcher cache can prevent the entitlement from being recognized.
- Verify the game files in Steam and allow any pending download or update to finish.
- If the game is visible in Ubisoft Connect, verify or repair its files there too, where that option is available.
- Reinstall Ubisoft Connect if the entitlement still will not process.
- Contact Ubisoft Support if the prompt remains after these steps.
These steps are recommended troubleshooting measures, not a guarantee of a fix. Ubisoft support responses have specifically pointed to updating or reinstalling Connect, clearing its cache, closing it fully, using administrator rights, and relaunching the game from Steam.
Check whether the wrong Ubisoft account is linked
A second Ubisoft account is one of the most common reasons a legitimate Steam purchase produces an activation prompt. You may have used an older email address, a different Ubisoft account for another game, or an account that was already linked to the Steam profile.

- Sign in at the Ubisoft account portal.
- Open Account Information.
- Scroll to Linked Accounts.
- Confirm that the intended Steam account is linked.
If the game was already activated on another Ubisoft account, reinstalling the game will not necessarily move it. Ubisoft support has warned that a license may not be linkable to a different Ubisoft account after activation. Recover the original account or contact Ubisoft Support before attempting repeated unlinking or creating another account.
Older games, DLC, and third-party purchases
Older Ubisoft games
Do not assume every Ubisoft title behaves like a newer release. Some older or specially configured games may still expose a Steam-issued key or use legacy Uplay-era activation behavior. Check Manage → CD Keys before troubleshooting the launcher, and follow the activation instructions for the specific title.

A DLC entry can have different activation behavior from its base game. Check the DLC entry separately in Steam and read the exact product name in the prompt. A key displayed for an expansion or add-on may not activate the base game.

Games bought from another retailer
If you purchased a Ubisoft key from a retailer, reseller, boxed copy, or another store, Steam may not be the source of that key. Check the retailer’s email, order page, packaging, or account library. Contact that seller for a missing, invalid, or already-used external key. Do not confuse a third-party Ubisoft key with a Steam product key; Steam’s guidance for those situations is available here.
If you bought the game from the Ubisoft Store rather than Steam, there is no Steam key to retrieve. Manage that purchase through your Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Store order history.

Steam notes that third-party registration systems are controlled by the publisher, so Ubisoft generally handles problems occurring inside Ubisoft Connect. Steam can still help with the purchase, download, or a Steam-issued key that should have appeared.

What to include in a support request
Prepare the following information before contacting support:
- Your Steam purchase receipt or transaction history.
- Your Steam account details.
- The Ubisoft account email or username you used.
- The exact game edition and DLC name, if applicable.
- A screenshot of the activation-code prompt.
- A screenshot showing whether Manage → CD Keys is available.
- Any error message or error code.
- Confirmation that the game is installed and was launched from Steam.
Do not use unofficial code generators, random codes posted online, or replacement-key websites as a troubleshooting step. If the original Steam entitlement is already tied to an account, buying another code may waste money and leave the account-linking problem unchanged.
