Check Steam’s VAC Status details in the client: open Steam > Settings > Account, then select “Click here for details” beneath VAC Status. Steam says this page identifies the game or games affected. A Game Ban or a community-server ban is different, so confirm the exact restriction before concluding that your account has a VAC ban.
Check your VAC Status in Steam
- Open the Steam client.
- Go to Steam > Settings > Account.
- Under VAC Status, select “Click here for details.”
- Review the details page to see which game or games, if any, are affected.

Tell a VAC ban apart from other restrictions
The word “ban” can describe several different actions. The restriction’s exact label and where it appears matter.

Why a profile or in-game message may not settle it
A profile is not a complete detector for every restriction: Steam says permanent Game Bans appear on profiles, but temporary game suspensions do not. For a VAC check, use the client’s VAC Status details page.

A cooldown, disconnect, matchmaking restriction, or generic message from a game is not enough on its own to identify a VAC ban. Check the exact wording, the game context, and the VAC Status details page. Steam’s guidance distinguishes VAC bans, Game Bans, server bans, and other account restrictions, but an individual message may require its game-specific context.
If Steam shows a VAC ban
Steam says VAC bans are permanent and cannot be appealed or manually removed by Steam Support. If Valve’s investigation determines that a ban was issued incorrectly, it is removed automatically. Steam also says it does not disclose the cheat software detected in connection with an individual VAC ban. The status page therefore confirms the affected game, not the specific software involved. Reduce the risk of a future VAC ban
Valve recommends playing on trusted computers and being cautious with modifications, scripts, and custom skins. It also warns that cheating through a shared Steam library can result in revoked Family Sharing privileges and a VAC ban; authorize only accounts and computers you trust. See Valve’s VAC guidance.
