Alphys assumes you wrote it and agrees to a date. This is a route event, not a friendship option you can trigger at any point.
What you need to do first
The letter sequence comes after the relevant friendship steps with Papyrus and Undyne and progress through the Neutral ending sequence. If you reach the lab before the route is ready, the letter event may not be available. The community-maintained Undertale Wiki’s True Pacifist Route walkthrough places the event within that progression.
How to deliver Undyne’s letter
- Get the letter from Undyne. Once you have reached the required point in the route, speak with Undyne to receive it. If you discarded the letter, the walkthrough says you can return to Undyne for Undyne’s Letter EX, which cannot be discarded. The Undyne’s Letter walkthrough describes this recovery step.
- Go to Alphys’s laboratory entrance in Hotland. Interact with the lab door and choose to slide the letter underneath it.
- Let the scene play out. Alphys reads the letter, thinks it came from you, and initiates the date. The event walkthrough is on the Alphys’s Date page.
What happens after the date
The date continues at the Garbage Dump, where Undyne and Papyrus appear and the story develops Alphys’s relationship with Undyne. After Papyrus calls, return to Alphys’s lab and read the note there to continue to the True Lab. The date is therefore a step on the True Pacifist route, not the end of Alphys’s story; see the route walkthrough.
If the letter event is not working
- You do not have a letter: Check your route progress and speak with Undyne again if you discarded the original. The walkthrough identifies Undyne’s Letter EX as the replacement.
- The lab door does not offer the delivery: The event depends on True Pacifist progression and the letter. It is not a freely available dialogue choice, so continue the required route steps before trying again.
- You finished the date but are unsure where to go: Wait for Papyrus’s call, then return to the lab and follow the note to the True Lab.
