If the Xbox app on your smart TV displays a sign-in code, open xbox.com/tvsetup in a browser on your phone, tablet, or computer. Sign in with the Microsoft account you want to use on the TV, enter the code shown on the TV, and submit it.
Enter the Xbox TV code in a browser
- Open the Xbox app on your TV or supported streaming device.
- Select Sign in and leave the displayed code on screen.
- On a phone, tablet, or computer, open a web browser.
- Go to xbox.com/tvsetup.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account connected to the Xbox profile you want on the TV.
- Enter the temporary code displayed by the TV.
- Select Next or continue through the prompts.
- Wait for the TV app to refresh and show your Xbox profile.
Do not enter the TV code into the TV’s search bar or the Xbox mobile app. The TV displays the code; the browser on another device is where you submit it.
If the TV shows a QR code
Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera and follow the link. If scanning fails, manually open xbox.com/tvsetup and type the short code exactly as shown. Avoid adding spaces or confusing similar characters. Depending on the TV model and app version, the screen may show a QR code, a text code, or both.
Use the correct Microsoft account
The browser account determines which Xbox profile signs in on the TV. If your browser is already signed in to another Microsoft account, the TV may activate the wrong gamertag.

- Check the account and Xbox profile before submitting the code.
- Sign out of the wrong Microsoft account, or use a private/incognito browser window.
- Sign in with the account you actually want to use. Microsoft accounts are used for Xbox and related services; account management is available through Microsoft account settings.
What happens after activation?
The browser should confirm the pairing, and the TV app should update to the signed-in Xbox profile. A short delay is possible. If the TV remains on the code screen, select Try again or Sign in, restart the app, or generate a new code instead of repeatedly submitting the old one.
If the code is rejected or expired
Temporary TV sign-in codes can expire or become invalid when a new sign-in attempt starts. A mistyped character, a stale code, a different browser account, or a lost TV network connection can also cause rejection.
- Cancel the sign-in attempt on the TV.
- Close and reopen the Xbox app.
- Generate a fresh code.
- Open a new browser tab or private window.
- Sign in to the correct Microsoft account.
- Enter the new code promptly.
If it still fails, check the TV’s internet connection, try another browser or phone, update the TV software and Xbox app, and power-cycle the TV or streaming device. Reinstalling the app is a later option because it can remove local app state and require another sign-in.

If the TV stays on the code screen
First, wait several seconds after the browser confirms the code. Then try Back followed by Sign in on the TV, restart the Xbox app, and check the network connection. If necessary, restart the TV or streaming device and check official Xbox support for service problems.
If no code appears
You may not be in the TV app’s sign-in flow, the app may already be signed in, or the app may be stuck. Open the profile or account menu, choose Sign out, then choose Sign in again. Also verify that you installed the official Xbox app and that your device software is current.
Xbox maintains platform-specific setup guidance for supported devices, including Samsung Smart TVs and LG Smart TVs. Availability is not universal: support can vary by manufacturer, model, country or region, and app version.

Do not confuse it with a 25-character Xbox code
A temporary TV sign-in code is different from an Xbox gift card, game, subscription, or download code. A 25-character redemption code belongs at xbox.com/redeem, not at the TV setup page. Microsoft’s redemption instructions require you to sign in, enter the code, select Next, and follow the prompts. Microsoft also says 25-character code redemption is not currently available in the Xbox mobile app.
If the Xbox mobile app asks for a code
This may be the separate process for setting up or connecting a physical Xbox console. In that flow, the console displays a code and the Xbox mobile app asks you to enter it. Follow the mobile app’s instructions and ensure the phone and console are connected as required.
Quick distinction: If the TV app shows a code, enter it at xbox.com/tvsetup. If the phone app asks for a code shown on an Xbox console, enter it in the phone app.

Signing in does not make an unsupported TV compatible or guarantee access to every Xbox feature. Cloud gaming and available content can depend on the device, region, Microsoft account, applicable Xbox Game Pass plan, internet quality, and controller compatibility. Check the current Xbox support page for your exact platform before troubleshooting further. Can I enter the TV code in the Xbox mobile app?
Usually, no. For the Xbox app installed on a smart TV, enter the code at xbox.com/tvsetup in a browser on another device. The mobile app may use a separate code flow for setting up a physical Xbox console.

Why does the TV still show the sign-in code?
Wait briefly, then select Try again or Sign in on the TV. Restart the Xbox app, check the internet connection, and generate a fresh code if the original expired.
What if I activated the wrong Microsoft account?
Sign out of the TV app and start the sign-in process again. In the browser, sign out of the wrong Microsoft account or use a private window before opening xbox.com/tvsetup.
Is this the same as redeeming an Xbox gift card?
No. TV sign-in uses a temporary pairing code at xbox.com/tvsetup. A 25-character gift card, game, or subscription code is redeemed at xbox.com/redeem.
Can I use the Xbox TV app without an Xbox console?
The TV app and cloud-gaming setup are separate from owning a physical console, but access depends on supported hardware, region, account status, applicable subscription, internet quality, and controller compatibility.
