Bandai Namco posted a short clip of ELDEN RING: Tarnished Edition after players raised concerns about the Switch 2 demo at Gamescom 2025. But the clip was not a technical rebuttal: it showed only a small tutorial area, without combat or open-world traversal. The game later launched on August 28, 2026, and one post-release reviewer described a substantial improvement over the demo while still noting some visual and animation issues.
What prompted the criticism at Gamescom?
Hands-on reports from Gamescom 2025 criticized the Switch 2 demo’s performance, with frame-rate drops particularly noted in handheld mode and open areas. Those reports concerned a demo, not the final release. Nintendo Life summarized the criticism and reported the subsequent delay announcement in its October 23, 2025 coverage.
The original ELDEN RING launched on February 25, 2022. Bandai Namco said in a July 2025 press release that the game had shipped more than 30 million units worldwide as of March 2025. That context helps explain the attention on the Switch 2 edition, but it does not establish how the new version performs.
What did Bandai Namco’s clip actually show?
GamesRadar described Bandai Namco’s post-Gamescom clip as a brief look at the tutorial area. It did not show combat or traversal through the open world, so viewers could not use it to assess the situations that had drawn the most concern. There is no named-person quote in the available coverage formally denying the criticism or offering a technical rebuttal. The clip provided a limited visual sample, not a frame-rate benchmark or proof of performance across the game.
Why was the Switch 2 edition delayed?
On October 23, 2025, the official ELDEN RING account announced that the planned 2025 launch was moving to 2026. The statement said the change was made “to allow time for performance adjustments.” Nintendo Life reproduced the statement in its coverage of the delay. That is the stated reason; it does not specify particular technical targets or promise a certain frame rate.

How does Elden Ring run on Switch 2 now?
ELDEN RING: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 was released on August 28, 2026, according to TechRadar’s review information. After around 60 hours of play, mostly in handheld mode, TechRadar’s reviewer described the final version as a major technical improvement. The same reviewer noted scenery pop-in in Liurnia and occasional jerky animation when many enemies were visible. The available reporting does not establish a specific Switch 2 frame-rate figure. It supports a qualitative conclusion: the final version was judged much improved over the demo by that reviewer, but it was not described as flawless. Is the Switch 2 version the right choice?
- Choose Switch 2 for handheld play: Its main advantage in the cited review is portability, with the reviewer reporting strong performance overall during mostly handheld play.
- Prefer PS5 or Xbox Series X if smoothness takes priority: TechRadar’s reviewer found those versions smoother.
- Keep expectations measured: The Switch 2 release still had reported pop-in and occasional animation judder in demanding scenes, and the available source set does not provide comparable frame-rate measurements across platforms.
The relevant physical edition is named ELDEN RING: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. Retail stock, format, and price can change, so confirm those details with the retailer before buying.
