Rockstar’s official GTA 6 character page says Lucia’s mother dreamed of a better life “since their days in Liberty City.” Liberty City is the setting associated with GTA 4, whose protagonist is Niko Bellic, as identified in Rockstar’s GTA 4 manual. That makes Lucia’s biography a genuine geographical reference to GTA 4’s world.

It does not establish who Lucia’s mother is, whether she met Niko, or whether Niko appears in GTA 6. Rockstar’s published material cited here does not name her mother as an existing GTA character or describe a direct personal connection to Niko. Claims that Lucia is related to a GTA 4 character therefore remain speculation.
The shared place is not proof of a shared plot
Liberty City is a setting connection, not evidence that GTA 6 continues Niko’s story. The available official descriptions do not say that events from GTA 4 cause the events of GTA 6, or that a GTA 4 protagonist returns.

How does GTA 6 compare with GTA 5?
Different protagonists and crime stories
Rockstar’s official story summary describes Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as a couple caught in a criminal conspiracy after an easy score goes wrong. They are forced to rely on each other. The setup places their relationship at the center of the story; it does not describe them as inheriting the plot of GTA 5.
By contrast, Rockstar describes GTA 5 as weaving together the stories of Franklin Clinton, Michael De Santa, and Trevor Philips. Its official announcement frames their crime story around money in contemporary Southern California. GTA 6’s announced pair and conspiracy give the new game a different protagonist structure and premise, rather than confirming a continuation of the trio’s arc.

Vice City and Los Santos are different setting connections
GTA 5 is set around Los Santos and Blaine County. GTA 6 returns to Vice City and expands its setting to the state of Leonida, according to Rockstar’s official GTA 6 page and story announcement. Vice City is a familiar franchise location, but the Rockstar material cited here does not establish a direct story bridge from GTA 5’s Los Santos to Leonida.
Are GTA 4, GTA 5, and GTA 6 in the same continuity?
Fans often use “HD Universe” for the continuity associated with GTA 4 and GTA 5; a fan-maintained reference also discusses GTA 6 in those terms. That label is useful fan terminology, not a Rockstar statement in the official sources cited here defining GTA 6’s continuity. The firmer evidence is narrower: GTA 6 revisits Vice City and Lucia’s biography explicitly mentions Liberty City.

Those references make the series’ history relevant, but they do not confirm that every past character or plot event carries over. The safest reading is that GTA 6 draws on familiar places and franchise history while introducing its own central characters and crime story.
Will Niko, Michael, Franklin, or Trevor appear in GTA 6?
None of Rockstar’s official GTA 6 materials cited here confirms an appearance by Niko Bellic, Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, or Trevor Philips. That is not proof they cannot appear; it means their involvement has not been confirmed in the official material reviewed. Do you need to play GTA 4 or GTA 5 first?
Rockstar’s published GTA 6 premise introduces Jason and Lucia and the conspiracy they become involved in; it does not present the game as requiring knowledge of Niko’s or GTA 5’s protagonists’ stories. Playing earlier games can add context to returning locations and the series’ history, but the confirmed connections above do not establish them as prerequisites.
