TechRadar reported on June 29, 2026, that broadband comparison site Uswitch used an estimated 120GB file size to calculate download times: about 26 hours and 40 minutes at 10Mbps. Rockstar has not published a final install size in the official information reviewed.
How long could GTA 6 take to download?
The estimate depends on two assumptions: the download is 120GB, and the connection sustains the speed shown. The 120GB figure and all times below are Uswitch estimates reproduced by TechRadar, not Rockstar specifications or measured GTA 6 downloads. Real download times can vary with server demand, peak-time congestion, and other network conditions.

Uswitch’s 170.2Mbps figure is reported as a UK average download speed; TechRadar also reports roughly 300Mbps as a US average, with an estimated 53 minutes and 20 seconds for the same assumed 120GB download. These are attributed figures, not guarantees for an individual household or universal benchmarks. TechRadar’s report and calculation table provide the underlying context.
Is GTA 6 really a 120GB download?
That size is not confirmed. TechRadar attributes the 120GB estimate to Uswitch; Rockstar’s reviewed official platform information does not state a final install size for either console. It also does not state the size of a launch update, so the eventual space required could differ from the estimate.

Rockstar lists the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the available official information does not provide separate download sizes for those platforms. PlayStation’s product page confirms PS5 availability and says the game will not be playable on PS4; it does not give a file size. Rockstar’s platform, edition and version details and the official PlayStation game page are the relevant listings.
Will the physical version include a disc?
No. Rockstar says the physical version comes with a download code and no disc. Buying the box therefore does not avoid downloading the game: the code is redeemed for the digital download. Rockstar confirms this in its pre-order details as well as its platform information.

When does GTA 6 pre-loading begin?
Rockstar says pre-loading is scheduled to begin November 12, 2026, at local midnight. PlayStation lists the release date as November 19, 2026. Pre-loading gives players the opportunity to download ahead of release, but it does not establish the final file size or guarantee that every download will finish before launch.

These steps can improve the connection between the console and router, but they cannot increase the speed included in an internet plan or remove server-side congestion.

- Connect by Ethernet if practical. Plug the router directly into the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S with an Ethernet cable. TechRadar reports broadband expert Max Beckett’s recommendation as a way to help keep speeds consistent, not as a promise of a faster service.
- If using Wi-Fi, check router placement. Beckett advises placing the router in a central, open area of the home to help maximise speeds. Walls, distance, interference and network activity can still affect performance.
- Start the download when your connection is less busy. Uswitch’s estimate, as reported by TechRadar, notes that peak-time congestion and server demand can affect actual time. A quieter period may help, but cannot ensure a particular result.
