Plan on about 15–20 hours for a story-focused playthrough of Donkey Kong Bananza. Exploring side activities can bring a typical run to roughly 20–35 hours, while pursuing a thorough completionist run may take around 50–60 hours or more. These are published guide estimates, not an official Nintendo completion-time guarantee.
How long is Donkey Kong Bananza?
| Play style | Time to plan for | What the estimate covers |
|---|---|---|
| Story-focused | About 15–20 hours | Primarily the story objectives, with limited detours. GamesRadar+ estimates 14–18 hours for critical-path objectives; Nintendo Life estimates 15–20 hours for a story-focused run. |
| Typical run with exploration | About 20–35 hours | Story progress plus optional objectives, exploration, and collectibles. GamesRadar+ estimates 18–26 hours for story and side activities; Nintendo Life says its first playthrough took roughly 35 hours with substantial banana hunting. |
| Completionist | Roughly 50–60 hours or more | A broad sweep of collectibles and optional content. GamesRadar+ estimates 30+ hours; GameSpot estimates 50–60 hours for an extensive checklist; Nintendo Life estimates 60+ hours for 100% completion. |
| Crowdsourced averages | 19 hours main story; 30.5 hours main plus extra; 49.5 hours completionist | HowLongToBeat figures displayed by Deku Deals, retrieved in 2026. These are player-submitted averages, not Nintendo measurements. |
The differences are mostly about what each source counts: a focused story route, optional exploration, or a detailed completion checklist. Treat the ranges as planning estimates rather than exact finish times.
Why play time varies so much
The game’s layered world rewards detours, and optional objectives can add hours beyond the main route. GameSpot counts 17 chapters and 777 bananas across its chapter list, and notes that some collectibles become available only later or after the main game. How many you pursue—and whether you return for items you missed—has a major effect on your total.
“100%” is not a single standardized checklist across these guides. For example, GameSpot’s 50–60-hour estimate includes every banana, Banandium Gem, challenge course, transformation, and Style Shop costume. Other estimates use their own definitions of completion, which helps explain why the published figures range from 30+ to 60+ hours.

Does the DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC count?
No: the Donkey Kong Bananza – DK Island & Emerald Rush expansion is separate from base-game estimates above. Nintendo Support describes Emerald Rush as a series of timed, repeatable challenges that grow more difficult and offer rewards; after completing the game, players can visit DK Island as a separate layer. Add that expansion’s play time separately rather than treating it as part of the base-game completion estimates. It is available through Nintendo eShop.

- You mainly want to see the story: allow around 15–20 hours.
- You expect to explore and take on optional activities: allow roughly 20–35 hours.
- You want to chase a broad completion checklist: budget around 50–60 hours or more, recognizing that guides differ on what counts as complete.
