You need 1,476 Netherite ingots for the four-layer pyramid of a full Netherite beacon. If you also use a Netherite ingot to select the beacon’s effect, set aside one extra, for 1,477 ingots total.
What counts as a full Netherite beacon?
“Full” means a level-four beacon pyramid: four square layers of mineral blocks beneath the beacon. The pyramid has 164 blocks altogether. The beacon itself and the item used to activate or change its effect are not included in that block count. Minecraft Wiki’s beacon pyramid reference lists the layer sizes and materials.
How the 1,476-ingot total is calculated
| Layer, bottom to top | Footprint | Blocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 9 × 9 | 81 |
| 2 | 7 × 7 | 49 |
| 3 | 5 × 5 | 25 |
| 4 | 3 × 3 | 9 |
| Total | 164 |
Each Netherite block requires nine Netherite ingots. Multiply the pyramid’s 164 blocks by nine: 164 × 9 = 1,476 Netherite ingots. This is the material cost for the pyramid, not the beacon block or its payment item.
Crafting materials for the pyramid
Mojang’s Nether Update article gives the Netherite ingot recipe: four Netherite scrap and four gold ingots. To craft the 1,476 ingots for the pyramid, you therefore need 5,904 Netherite scrap and 5,904 gold ingots (1,476 × 4 of each).

Remember the separate beacon payment
After building the pyramid, the beacon interface requires a payment item to select or change an effect. A Netherite ingot can be used for that interaction, but it is separate from the 1,476 ingots incorporated into the pyramid. If you choose that payment option, bring one additional ingot.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can the pyramid use other materials?
The four-layer structure does not have to be made entirely of Netherite; other valid mineral blocks can form the beacon pyramid. The 1,476-ingot figure applies only when all 164 pyramid blocks are Netherite blocks. Mixing materials reduces the number of Netherite blocks—and therefore the Netherite ingots—you need, while leaving the pyramid’s 164-block structure unchanged.
