How do Whispering Roots work?
Strike a Whispering Root with the Dream Nail to release floating Essence throughout the surrounding area. Collect the scattered Essence, then Dream Nail the enlarged Root again to hear its area-related dream dialogue. The game’s tutorial has the Seer invite the player to strike a nearby whispering plant and see what happens.
How can you track Roots you have found?
After acquiring the Dream Nail, buy the Whispering Root Pin from Iselda for 150 Geo. It marks discovered Roots on maps you have purchased. The Quill records explored areas on those maps, which update after you rest at a Bench; see the map and Quill reference.
