Wireless-mouse interference repeatedly interrupted VALORANT Champions Shanghai, prompting Riot Games to ask players to switch to wired mice. Riot later identified specific metal components in the custom desks as the source, according to Sheep Esports. The disruption also fed into a disputed round in FUT Esports’ series against 100 Thieves: Riot said the round should have been replayed, but kept the 2-0 result.
Why Riot asked players to use wired mice
Players experienced recurring wireless-mouse problems during the Shanghai tournament, leading to multiple technical pauses. Riot’s temporary response was to ask players to use wired mice while it investigated and addressed the issue, as Dot Esports reported.
Sheep Esports reported that Riot’s investigation identified specific metal components in the custom desks as the source of the interference. The available reporting does not explain the precise radio-frequency mechanism, so claims about exactly how the metal affected the mice go beyond what has been established.
What Riot changed on October 2
Riot installed replacement desks on the morning of October 2, 2026, and allowed players to test wireless mice again, according to Sheep Esports. Wired peripherals remained the fallback if stuttering continued.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is the latest confirmed status in the reporting available as of October 3, 2026. The reports do not say whether the wireless tests passed or whether Riot later lifted the wired-peripheral fallback.
Why the xeus round became controversial
During FUT Esports’ match against 100 Thieves on Split, FUT player xeus reportedly could not fire his weapon because of a mouse malfunction in a consequential round. Riot’s post-game review later concluded that the round should have been replayed. As PC Gamer quoted Riot: “Following an official post-game evaluation, we concluded that a round rollback should have been allowed. We take responsibility for that error.”

Riot nevertheless left the series result standing. Its stated reasoning was that reversing the outcome would overturn a win by a team that competed under the same conditions and was not responsible for the ruling error, as reported by Dot Esports. 100 Thieves won the series 2-0; the reporting does not establish that xeus’s malfunction alone determined the result.
