An all-netherite, level-4 beacon pyramid takes 5,904 ancient debris. That is because the pyramid uses 164 mineral blocks, each netherite block requires nine ingots, and each ingot requires four ancient debris. Netherite is optional: iron, gold, emerald, and diamond blocks also work, and you can mix valid materials.
How many blocks make a full beacon pyramid?
A full beacon ordinarily means a level-4 pyramid. Its four layers are 9×9, 7×7, 5×5, and 3×3, for a total of 164 blocks. The beacon sits above the pyramid and is not part of that count. The MinecraftMaps.com Beacon Planner lists this level-4 structure and its material totals.

How does the 5,904 ancient debris total work?
- Make 164 netherite blocks for the pyramid.
- Each netherite block takes nine netherite ingots, so 164 blocks require 1,476 ingots.
- Each netherite ingot takes four ancient debris, so 1,476 ingots require 5,904 ancient debris.
In short, each netherite block represents 36 ancient debris. This total is for the pyramid alone; it does not include the beacon block itself or the payment item used to activate an effect.
Do you need netherite for a full beacon?
No. Iron, gold, emerald, and diamond blocks are also valid pyramid materials, and the pyramid can use a mixture of eligible blocks. The planner says the material choice does not change beacon range or effects, so netherite is a cosmetic or prestige choice here, not a beacon-power upgrade. It lists netherite as valid from Minecraft version 1.16 onward.

If only part of the pyramid is netherite, multiply the number of netherite blocks by 36 to find the debris required. For example, 10 netherite blocks need 360 ancient debris; the remaining pyramid blocks can be another valid material or a mix.

- Use what you already have: a full pyramid needs 164 blocks, but they do not all have to match.
- Compare the in-game crafting and gathering cost: the all-netherite calculation is especially resource-intensive because it converts 164 blocks into 1,476 ingots and then 5,904 debris.
- Choose netherite for appearance or prestige: it does not improve the beacon’s range or effects according to the planner.
