There is no single data-use figure for every recorded class stream: the platform, delivered video quality and hours watched all matter. For a useful planning estimate, Jio says video streaming can use up to 3 GB per hour at HD quality. If playback stays at that rate around the clock, that works out to about 72 GB a day or 2,160 GB in a 30-day month. These are calculations from Jio’s general estimates, not measurements of a particular class stream; Jio says usage varies by app or website. Jio’s video data-use guidance.
Estimated data use at different video qualities
The table multiplies Jio’s estimated hourly use by 24 hours for a day and 720 hours for a 30-day month. Jio describes these as amounts video streaming can use, so treat them as upper-end planning estimates rather than a promise about what a particular recorded class will consume.
| Assumed quality | Jio estimate per hour | 24 hours | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB | Up to 7.2 GB | Up to 216 GB |
| Medium | Up to 0.7 GB | Up to 16.8 GB | Up to 504 GB |
| High | Up to 1 GB | Up to 24 GB | Up to 720 GB |
| HD | Up to 3 GB | Up to 72 GB | Up to 2,160 GB |
| Ultra HD | Up to 7 GB | Up to 168 GB | Up to 5,040 GB |
Calculation: hourly estimate × hours played. For example, 3 GB per hour × 24 hours = 72 GB per day; multiplied by 30, that is 2,160 GB. A shorter schedule uses less: multiply the hourly figure by the actual playback hours rather than assuming a full day.
Will it exceed your Indian broadband data limit?
Compare the monthly estimate with the exact allowance and post-limit speed on your own connection. A plan’s speed and its data threshold are different things: a high headline speed does not tell you how much data is included or what happens after the allowance is used.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
BharatNet’s official FTTH page lists example thresholds of 700 GB, 1,400 GB, 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB, with reduced speeds after the threshold. These are examples of BharatNet offers, not a description of every Indian ISP or household plan; availability and terms can change. Check BharatNet’s FTTH plan information.
- At the illustrative HD estimate of 2,160 GB per 30 days, continuous viewing would exceed the listed 700 GB and 1,400 GB examples, but remain below the listed 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB thresholds.
- At the illustrative Ultra HD estimate of 5,040 GB per month, usage is near or above those larger examples.
- These comparisons apply only if your plan has the same threshold and the video maintains the assumed quality throughout the month. Count other household usage against the same allowance too.
Why the actual total may differ
Delivered quality can change
Higher-resolution video generally uses more data. A streaming service may adjust quality as connection conditions change, so a recorded class does not necessarily play at one fixed rate all day. Jio notes that consumption varies by application or website and that automatic quality depends on data speed.

Playback time and household use add up
“24/7” in these estimates means 24 hours of playback every day. Pauses, outages or a shorter schedule reduce the class stream’s total; other devices and activities increase the household’s overall usage. TRAI notes that multiple devices may use fixed broadband at once and that bandwidth needs vary with application, location and user count. TRAI-hosted NCAER report.
A known delivered bitrate allows a separate calculation
If you know the steady bitrate actually delivered to the viewer, decimal gigabytes can be estimated at 10.8 GB per day and 324 GB per 30 days for each 1 Mbps. This is a mathematical conversion, not an estimate of the class stream’s bitrate. It is also important not to substitute the creator’s encoder setting for the viewer’s delivered rate.

Why encoder settings and speed recommendations are not data-use measurements
YouTube’s live encoder guidance gives H.264 ingest ranges of 3–8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Those settings describe the feed a creator sends to YouTube, not the bitrate each viewer receives. YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Likewise, Netflix recommends 3 Mbps or higher for 720p HD and 5 Mbps or higher for 1080p Full HD playback, while noting that quality depends on multiple factors. Those are connection-speed recommendations for Netflix playback, not a measurement of a recorded class’s data consumption. Netflix’s internet connection speed recommendations.

A TRAI-hosted NCAER report from 2012 gives historical approximate bandwidth requirements of 2 Mbps per video-streaming channel and 4–8 Mbps per HD video channel. These figures are older bandwidth context, not a current service’s data-use guarantee. TRAI-hosted NCAER report.

- Find the quality or delivered bitrate. Use the platform’s playback information, quality controls or usage meter if available. Do not assume the creator’s YouTube ingest setting is the viewer’s delivered bitrate.
- Choose a daily playback duration. Use 24 hours only if the stream actually plays all day; otherwise use the real number of hours.
- Calculate daily and monthly use. With an hourly estimate, multiply by playback hours per day and then by the number of days. With a known steady delivered bitrate, use 10.8 GB per day or 324 GB per 30 days per 1 Mbps.
- Check the ISP’s terms and actual usage. Compare the result with your plan’s data threshold and post-threshold speed, include other household activity, and use the ISP’s account meter or usage reading to verify the real account total.
