A practical starting point is $20 per month for a Vultr Cloud Compute server configured for the OBS-on-Ubuntu example in Vultr’s guide. That plan lists 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM and 3 TB of bandwidth; Vultr’s guide also calls for 80 GB of storage. Your total can be higher if your continuous stream exceeds the bandwidth allowance or you add separate services. Check Vultr’s current plan terms before ordering.
Vultr’s starting price for a 24/7 stream
Vultr lists a Cloud Compute plan with 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM and 3 TB of bandwidth at $20 per month. That is the clearest documented starting point for the setup described in Vultr’s OBS and Ubuntu streaming-server guide, which specifies at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage and 3 TB bandwidth. The resource recommendation applies to that particular guide, not every possible way of sending video to YouTube.
Vultr also lists a 2-vCPU, 2-GB plan at $15 per month with 3 TB bandwidth. It costs less, but has less RAM than the 4-GB minimum in that guide, so it is not an equivalent match for the documented configuration. Prices and plan terms can change; confirm them on Vultr’s Cloud Compute pricing page.
What continuous streaming does to bandwidth
The server’s monthly price is only part of the estimate. A server sending a continuous feed to YouTube uses outbound bandwidth, and the video bitrate determines how much data it sends. At a steady 10 Mbps for 30 days, the calculation is 10,000,000 bits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8, or about 3.24 decimal TB. This is an arithmetic illustration, not a provider quote or a prediction of a particular bill.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Vultr’s FAQ says it measures charged bandwidth on outbound traffic, does not charge for inbound traffic, and lists an overage rate of $0.01 per GB beyond the plan quota. Against a 3-TB allowance, the simple 10-Mbps example is about 240 GB over quota, or roughly $2.40 at that stated rate. Actual charges depend on Vultr’s metering and bandwidth-allocation rules.
This is the server-to-YouTube feed, not a separate copy sent from your VPS to every viewer. YouTube says it transcodes an incoming live stream into multiple output formats for viewers, so do not multiply the VPS’s outbound traffic by your YouTube audience size.

Estimate traffic using your YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s live encoder recommendations list these H.264 bitrates:
- 720p at 30 fps: 8 Mbps.
- 1080p at 30 fps: 14 Mbps.
- 1080p at 60 fps: 17 Mbps.
At the recommended 14 Mbps for 1080p/30 fps, a constant 30-day feed would transmit about 4.54 decimal TB before any provider-specific accounting. That exceeds a 3-TB allowance in a simple comparison; the actual bill depends on Vultr’s metering and quota rules. YouTube also publishes AV1 and H.265 recommendations separately, so use the guidance for the codec you actually send.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and a 2-second keyframe interval that does not exceed 4 seconds. Those settings help configure the outgoing feed; they do not change the basic point that continuous outbound bitrate drives traffic consumption.
Compare the plan and bandwidth scenarios
| Option or assumption | Published or calculated amount | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 2 vCPUs, 2 GB RAM, 3 TB bandwidth | $15/month | Listed Vultr Cloud Compute price; below the 4-GB RAM minimum in Vultr’s cited streaming-server guide. |
| 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 3 TB bandwidth | $20/month | Listed price and the more defensible starting match for the guide’s example; the guide also specifies 80 GB storage. |
| Constant 10-Mbps stream for 30 days | About 3.24 decimal TB | Calculated from bitrate and elapsed time, not a Vultr charge or observed bill. |
| Potential overage in the 10-Mbps example | About $2.40 | Illustration of roughly 240 GB beyond 3 TB at Vultr’s stated $0.01/GB rate; metering rules determine actual billing. |
| Constant 14-Mbps stream for 30 days | About 4.54 decimal TB | Calculated from YouTube’s recommended 1080p/30 fps H.264 bitrate; compare with the plan allowance, then verify provider accounting. |
What can make the server cost differ?
Encoding workload
A server that encodes video or renders complex OBS scenes can have a different CPU and memory profile from one that relays or sends already encoded media. Vultr’s guide says to reduce output resolution or upgrade when CPU use is high; it does not establish that its example size will handle every workload.

Billing and instance state
Vultr’s published figures are listed plan prices, not a guarantee that rates will remain unchanged. Check current hourly billing, monthly caps and plan-specific terms before deploying. Vultr’s FAQ says a stopped instance continues to incur charges until it is destroyed, so stopping it is not the same as ending billing.
Separate marketplace product
Vultr documents a Broadcaster Marketplace application with OBS and GPU integration and advertises unlimited network bandwidth for that named product. Those are claims about the Broadcaster app; they are not terms included with ordinary Cloud Compute instances. See Vultr’s Broadcaster Marketplace documentation for its details.
