A 1-OCPU, 6-GB Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Ampere A1 VM running continuously for 30 days uses 720 OCPU-hours and 4,320 GB-hours. Those amounts fit within Oracle’s published monthly A1 allowances of 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours, and a typical single stream’s outbound traffic can fit within the listed first 10 TB/month free tier. That does not guarantee a zero bill: eligibility, other A1 use, boot-volume storage, region, and configuration all matter. Oracle’s price list was accessed October 3, 2026. Check Oracle’s current price list for your account and region.
What the 30-day example costs—and what “free” does not mean
For the illustrative 1-OCPU, 6-GB A1 VM, the monthly compute usage is below Oracle’s published A1 monthly allowance. A single continuous YouTube stream at a typical encoder bitrate can also use far less than Oracle’s listed first 10 TB/month outbound-transfer allowance. If both allowances apply to your tenancy and no other usage consumes them, compute and outbound transfer for this example can fall within those allowances.
That is not a guaranteed all-in price of zero. OCI requires a boot volume, and boot volumes and additional block storage are billed separately under standard Block Volume pricing. Other paid services or usage beyond an applicable allowance can add charges. The title does not specify region, account terms, storage size, or stream bitrate, so it is not possible to give one reliable paid monthly total.
Calculate the VM’s monthly resource use
For a 30-day month, continuous runtime is 30 × 24 = 720 hours. A VM configured with 1 OCPU and 6 GB of memory therefore uses:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- OCPU: 1 × 720 = 720 OCPU-hours.
- Memory: 6 × 720 = 4,320 GB-hours.
Oracle’s public price list currently lists monthly Ampere A1 allowances of 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours. Those are monthly allowances, not a blanket promise that every account’s VM is free. Check whether your tenancy qualifies and whether other A1 instances or usage have already consumed part of the allowance.
How to price usage above an allowance
A1 is priced by resource: OCPU and memory are separate items, with rates that vary by region. To estimate a paid amount, identify the region and selected A1 resources, calculate the metered hours, subtract only an allowance that actually applies to your account, and price any remaining OCPU-hours and GB-hours at the matching regional rates. Add the boot volume, any extra block storage, and other services. Flexible-shape use is billed per second with a one-minute minimum, according to Oracle’s shape information. Oracle Cloud price list

A 30-day month has 2,592,000 seconds. At a constant 1 Mbps, the stream sends about 0.324 TB decimal; at 3 Mbps, about 0.972 TB. These are arithmetic estimates, not measured bills. Actual transfer varies with bitrate and protocol overhead. Oracle lists the first 10 TB/month of outbound data transfer as free in its listed regions, but confirm the applicable regional terms and account usage before relying on that allowance. Use the actual sustained output bitrate—not just the video’s resolution—to estimate transfer. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes recommended live-stream settings; select bitrate, resolution, and frame rate based on the source material and guidance, then use the resulting bitrate in the calculation. Choose a region and VM shape carefully
OCI’s A1 Flex shape lets you select OCPUs and memory, and network bandwidth scales with the OCPU count. Oracle notes that A1 capacity may be limited, so a suitable configuration may not be available in every region or at every time. Do not assume a particular VM will have enough headroom to encode your source video without testing the workload. Oracle Compute shapes
When comparing architectures, do not treat equal OCPU counts as equal thread counts: Oracle states that A1 has one vCPU per OCPU, while OCI x86 shapes have two vCPUs per OCPU. Compare the chosen shape’s actual resources and performance needs, as well as its regional cost and availability.

A practical cost-checking sequence
- Choose the OCI region and shape. Record the A1 OCPU and memory settings you intend to run and check whether the shape is available.
- Calculate continuous runtime. For a 30-day month use 720 hours; multiply hours by configured OCPUs and memory GB to get OCPU-hours and GB-hours.
- Verify allowance eligibility and remaining balance. Check the account’s terms and other tenancy usage. Do not subtract the published A1 allowance unless it applies to your account.
- Price any excess resources. Use the regional OCPU and memory rates in Oracle’s price list or Cost Estimator; flexible shapes are billed per second with a one-minute minimum.
- Add storage and other services. Include the required boot volume, extra block storage, and any additional OCI services in the estimate.
- Estimate network transfer. Multiply the stream’s sustained encoded bitrate by the planned runtime and divide by eight. Compare the result with the applicable regional outbound allowance, accounting for actual bitrate and protocol overhead.
