Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There is no fixed electricity price for running a 24/7 YouTube stream on an Apple Mac mini: it depends on the mini’s average power draw while streaming and your electricity rate. Calculate average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × price per kWh. For a 30-day month, that is 720 hours; for a 365-day year, 8,760 hours. Apple’s idle and maximum power figures are useful context, but neither tells you what your particular streaming setup will use.
Calculate the electricity cost
First estimate energy use, then multiply by your electricity tariff. Let P be average wall power in watts and R your price per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Daily energy: P ÷ 1,000 × 24 kWh.
- 30-day energy: P ÷ 1,000 × 720 kWh.
- 365-day energy: P ÷ 1,000 × 8,760 kWh.
- Electricity cost: energy in kWh × R.
For example, at an illustrative average draw of 10 W, continuous operation uses 0.24 kWh a day, 7.2 kWh in 30 days, or 87.6 kWh in 365 days. At an illustrative 20 W, it uses 0.48 kWh a day, 14.4 kWh in 30 days, or 175.2 kWh in 365 days. These are arithmetic examples, not measured Mac mini streaming results. Multiply the applicable kWh figure by your local rate; without that rate and a measured workload, a currency estimate would be guesswork.
Measure the setup you will actually run
For a useful estimate, measure at the wall while your chosen streaming software is live and the stream is operating normally. A plug-in power meter or other reliable wall measurement can capture average draw over a representative period. Include the peripherals whose cost you want to count: for example, an external drive or network equipment. State whether a display or other hardware is included. Your bill may also include taxes, tiered rates, or fixed charges; use the marginal price that best reflects the extra electricity and treat the calculation as an estimate if your tariff is more complicated.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Apple’s published power figures are not streaming measurements
Apple’s support table lists configuration-specific figures, but its idle value is measured with only Finder open under default power-management settings. Apple lists the 2024 Mac mini with M4 at 4 W idle and 65 W maximum, and the M4 Pro configuration at 5 W idle and 140 W maximum. The same table gives the 2023 M2 configuration as 7 W idle and 50 W CPU maximum, and the M1 (2020) example as 6.8 W idle and 39 W CPU maximum. These are Apple figures, not measurements of a continuous YouTube broadcast; maximum power is not a typical 24/7 average. Apple’s Mac mini power-consumption table provides the model-specific context.
Streaming load depends on the software, video, and encoder settings. Apple’s published idle figure cannot stand in for that load, and no stream-specific Mac mini wattage is established here. If you are choosing a configuration, compare the workload you need to encode and measure the actual setup rather than extrapolating from idle power. Keep the one-time computer purchase separate from recurring electricity charges; both configuration and local purchase prices vary.

Stream settings affect workload and reliability
YouTube publishes encoder recommendations by resolution and frame rate, including H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 ingest options. For H.264, its guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; for 720p, it recommends 6 Mbps at 30 fps or 8 Mbps at 60 fps. Follow YouTube’s current table and the options supported by your streaming software. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live video into viewer output formats, so the encoder settings describe your feed to YouTube, not every viewer’s playback quality. Settings can affect encoder workload, but these recommendations do not establish Mac mini power draw at any particular setting. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS for RTMP-based streams and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds.
- The total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom.
- YouTube advises testing upload capacity and the full audio/video setup before going live, monitoring stream health, and using Ethernet for computer streams.
These settings and checks matter to the feasibility of a continuous stream, but electricity is only one part of operating cost. A connection disruption can interrupt the broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover connection and preparation guidance.

Plan separately for YouTube archives
A continuous broadcast may not produce one complete YouTube recording. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a recording, make a local recording or plan stream segments that create shorter archives, then verify that the resulting video is available. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the limitation.
Check eligibility before setting up a live stream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. Check eligibility before building a 24/7 setup around the channel. YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements have the current details.
