Nintendo’s launch suggested retail price for the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 was $629.99 CAD, but that is no longer the price shown by Best Buy Canada. The retailer says its price increased to $679.99 on September 1, 2026. That is Best Buy’s stated price, not a confirmed price for every Canadian seller.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 still $629 in Canada?
No. Nintendo announced a $629.99 CAD suggested retail price for the standalone console at launch on June 5, 2025. Best Buy Canada now lists the console at $679.99 and says the increase took effect September 1, 2026. The launch MSRP and Best Buy’s current stated price are different figures; check the seller’s live listing before buying.

The console package included the system, left and right Joy-Con 2 controllers, Joy-Con 2 Grip, Joy-Con 2 Straps, Switch 2 Dock, Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable, AC Adapter, and USB-C Charging Cable. What can change the total cost?
Games
There is no single fixed add-on price for Switch 2 games. Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 beginning in May 2026 may have a different MSRP from their physical versions, while retail partners set their own prices. Storage
The console has 256 GB of internal storage. Additional storage uses microSD Express cards; older microSD cards are not the specified expansion format. Check the card’s format and Switch 2 compatibility before purchasing. Nintendo’s launch announcement gives the storage details.
Tax and delivery
Your checkout total can differ from a listed console price because tax and delivery depend on the seller and order. There is no single nationwide after-tax total established here.

Will original Nintendo Switch games work?
Nintendo says compatible physical and digital games from the original Switch library work on Switch 2, although some titles may be unsupported or not fully compatible. If backward compatibility matters for a particular game, check Nintendo’s compatibility information for that title before counting it as part of your purchase.

How to compare Canadian listings
- Confirm whether the listing is for the standalone console or a bundle.
- Compare the same included contents, including whether a bundled game is a digital code or a packaged copy.
- Check the seller’s current price, stock, shipping, and checkout total rather than relying on the launch MSRP.
- Price any game, carrying case, screen protector, or microSD Express card separately; these are not all included with the console.
