What YouTube’s 70% share means
YouTube Help states that creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. The partner earnings overview describes the share as 70% of net revenue from Super Chat and related fan-funding products. The remaining 30% is therefore a shorthand for the portion of that defined revenue base not paid to the creator—not necessarily 30% of the viewer’s full payment.
YouTube’s published calculation deducts local sales tax and, for purchases on iOS, App Store fees before applying the 70% share. YouTube says it covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. Can you calculate an Indian creator’s payout from the displayed amount?
Not reliably from the public guidance alone. YouTube does not publish an India-specific Super Chat revenue-share rate or a worked example showing how a particular rupee payment becomes recognized revenue. The result depends on the applicable purchase route, tax treatment, and the revenue amount Google confirms. Do not treat a simple calculation of 70% of the displayed price as a guaranteed payout.

For Android, YouTube says some new Super Chat and Super Sticker purchases made in the Android app may be billed through Google Play; the billing source changes, not the price or cost. The public pages do not state a numerical India-specific Android deduction. The Super Chat revenue-share guidance specifically identifies App Store fees for iOS. How an Indian creator can check the reported amount
- Review the agreement: In YouTube Studio, inspect the applicable Commerce Product Module or earlier Commerce Product Addendum covering fan-funding features. YouTube’s partner earnings overview explains the net-revenue framing and related terms.
- Check the revenue report: In YouTube Analytics, review the Super Chat revenue report for the amounts reported for your channel. This is more useful for your actual transactions than estimating from a viewer-facing price.
- Keep platform share separate from your taxes: The 70% rule describes YouTube’s revenue share; it does not determine your personal tax liability. YouTube requires YPP creators to provide tax information, but the public guidance cited here does not establish an individual Indian creator’s income-tax or GST result. Eligibility is separate from the revenue share
Being eligible to receive Super Chats is not the same as calculating a payout. YouTube’s fan-funding conditions include being at least 18, living in a country or region where Super Chat and Super Stickers are available, and accepting the Commerce Product Module or an earlier Commerce Product Addendum.
