Short answer: there is no separate upload-speed requirement for streaming 24/7 in YouTube’s published guidance. Set the encoder bitrate for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec, then make sure the internet connection can sustain it. For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 12 Mbps at 1080p60. Those are encoder bitrate targets—not guaranteed minimum internet-plan speeds.
“Astra Streaming” can refer to more than one product, and the available Astra information does not establish a separate speed requirement for a 24/7 YouTube broadcast. The figures below are YouTube’s guidance, not an Astra specification.
Encoder bitrate and upload speed are different
The encoder’s bitrate is how much video data it sends each second. Your connection’s upload capacity is how much data it can reliably send to YouTube. The connection needs to carry the stream bitrate consistently, but an advertised upload speed—or a single speed-test result—does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
YouTube advises choosing settings based on the connection and testing upload bitrate before going live. It does not publish a universal internet-plan minimum or a fixed extra-headroom multiplier for this use case. For a stream intended to run continuously, test the same connection and equipment that will carry it, and check stream health while it is live.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations
The following are YouTube’s recommended H.264 encoder bitrates for the listed formats. They are not internet-plan minimums.
| Stream format | Recommended H.264 encoder bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p30 (4K) | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p60 (4K) | 35 Mbps |
YouTube also publishes recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, with bitrate ranges that differ from H.264. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table for the exact codec and format you plan to use rather than applying the H.264 figures to another codec.

How to check whether your connection is suitable
- Choose the stream format. Decide on resolution, frame rate, and codec first; these determine the relevant encoder bitrate recommendation.
- Set the encoder to YouTube’s matching target. YouTube’s guidance includes RTMP/RTMPS ingest and recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. Use a two-second keyframe interval; do not let the interval exceed four seconds.
- Test the actual connection. Run a speed test on the same network and device that will send the stream. YouTube specifically recommends a speed test to test upload bitrate.
- Run a representative pre-stream test. Test with the audio and movement expected in the broadcast, then review YouTube’s stream-health status and messages before relying on a long-running stream.
- Monitor stream health while live. Watch for warnings such as low bitrate or an overly long keyframe interval. A speed test is only a snapshot; stability over time matters for a continuous stream.
See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance and Live Streaming API health diagnostics for the relevant settings and health signals.
Does Astra impose another speed threshold?
The name is ambiguous. Astra Streaming Studio is an Android live-video app whose listing includes RTMP and RTMPS support. It does not state a bitrate table or a 24/7 YouTube upload-speed requirement. DataStax Astra Streaming is a separate managed, Apache Pulsar-compatible data-streaming platform; its bandwidth metrics do not describe the requirements for sending a YouTube video broadcast.

So unless a specific Astra product publishes a requirement for your setup, use YouTube’s bitrate guidance and test your sustained connection. Do not treat YouTube’s encoder targets as Astra-specific limits.
