For U.S. viewers, local Sunday afternoon games usually air on CBS or FOX; national and streaming-exclusive games have their own listed outlets; and out-of-market Sunday afternoon games are the territory of NFL Sunday Ticket. No single subscription covers every game.
How broadcast windows determine where you can watch
The NFL’s Ways to Watch guide matches games to services and, using a ZIP code, to local availability. Check the specific game and week: schedules, local assignments and services can vary.
Local Sunday afternoon games
The NFL support guide assigns local-market Sunday afternoon games to CBS and FOX. Which network and matchup you receive depend on your market. A local game means one available on television in your area; it does not necessarily mean a game featuring the team you support.
National games
The NFL’s rights explainer identifies CBS with the AFC Sunday afternoon package, FOX with the NFC Sunday afternoon package, NBC with Sunday Night Football, and ESPN with Monday Night Football. The current viewing guide lists NBC for Sunday Night Football and ESPN/ABC for Monday Night Football. A national broadcast can also be available on local over-the-air stations in the participating teams’ cities: the NFL says Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football are contractually required to be carried there. The weekly listing, rather than the national label alone, is the way to identify the exact station or service for a matchup.

Streaming-exclusive and other listed games
Streaming assignments are season-specific. The current NFL guide lists Amazon Prime Video for Thursday Night Football and the Black Friday game, YouTube for the Week 1 São Paulo game, and Netflix for exclusive Christmas Day games. It also lists select NFL Network games, including some international and Saturday matchups. Confirm the current week’s listing before subscribing or planning to watch.
Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games
If a Sunday afternoon game is not being shown in your local market, NFL Sunday Ticket is the NFL-identified option for out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. NFL support says it is available through YouTube and YouTube TV. It is separate from NFL+ and is not included with NFL+ or NFL+ Premium.

What NFL+ does—and does not—unlock
NFL+ offers live local and nationally televised games on phones and tablets; NFL support also describes mobile web access. Its regular-season live offering does not include out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. NFL+ Premium adds features such as NFL RedZone and replays, but it does not add Sunday Ticket. Check the current NFL support details for the device limits and terms applicable to your account.
How to check a specific game before watching
- Open the NFL Ways to Watch guide, find the game and date, enter your ZIP code, and select the services you actually have.
- For a local Sunday afternoon game, use the listed CBS or FOX station, or an authorized service carrying that local station.
- For a national or exclusive game, use the service shown for that matchup; do not assume NFL+ or Sunday Ticket carries every national or exclusive broadcast.
- For an out-of-market Sunday afternoon game, check NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube or YouTube TV.
- Confirm the device and sign-in requirements. NFL+ live local and primetime viewing is mobile-focused; TV-provider authentication works only with participating providers and supported devices.
The guide says that choosing a TV provider assumes access to channels including FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN and NFL Network, and that its schedule is customized to the actual provider subscription. A provider login can enable eligible live games on supported NFL devices, including NFL Network and local CBS, FOX and NBC stations. NFL support also notes third-party authentication for Paramount+ and Peacock subscribers; eligibility depends on the subscription, provider and device.

Why a local listing can differ from your team preference
Local availability is based on the television market, not fandom. If you follow a team from another region, its Sunday afternoon game may be out of market where you live even when your local station is carrying a different matchup. That is why the ZIP-code guide is more useful than searching by team alone.
The NFL describes itself as the only sports league that delivers all of its regular-season and playoff games on free, over-the-air television. This is an institutional statement about distribution; it does not mean every matchup is broadcast free in every market or that all games appear on the same local station. A TV antenna may receive local broadcast games where signal and reception conditions allow, but reception of a particular station is not guaranteed.
