PlayStation says an account’s country/region cannot be changed after account creation, so check the account region before buying a voucher. Wallet funds can pay for eligible PlayStation Store purchases, but under the US terms they are generally non-refundable and non-transferable, subject to applicable law.
Check the account region before buying a gift card
PlayStation Store vouchers are region-locked: the voucher’s country/region must match the country/region on the account. A familiar currency or a card bought while travelling does not establish that it will redeem. Physical vouchers identify their region. See PlayStation’s voucher guidance and account-region guidance.

- Sign in to Account Management.
- Open Your Information, then Edit your Residential Address. PlayStation displays the account’s region there. The PlayStation App also offers an account-information route.
- Compare that region with the country/region printed on the voucher or shown in its terms before purchasing.
PlayStation says you cannot change an account’s country/region after it has been created. If you need to use a different regional Store, do not assume that changing an address will convert the existing account.
What wallet funds can—and cannot—do
Redeeming a voucher can add funds to the account’s virtual wallet, and a voucher may also be redeemed during checkout. PlayStation’s Australian guide describes 12-digit voucher codes, one-time use, and an option to enter a code at checkout; confirm the instructions and conditions for the voucher’s own region at the local voucher guide.

The US terms say wallet funds can be used for PlayStation Store purchases and certain third-party services, and have no value outside PlayStation services. Those terms also say funds added to a wallet are non-refundable and non-transferable except where law requires. This is not a promise of cash redemption, a transfer to another account, or a refund; applicable local law and the current terms for the account’s country/region control. The US terms state that a maximum wallet balance applies but do not establish a universal numeric cap. See PlayStation’s US terms.
Gift card redemption and wallet top-ups are different from payment methods
A gift card or prepaid voucher is one way to fund the wallet; other payment methods depend on the country/region. PlayStation’s US support guidance lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Cash App Pay. That list applies to US support information, not every Store worldwide. Check the payment guidance for your country/region before relying on a particular method.

Child accounts use the family manager’s wallet in US guidance
Under PlayStation’s US support guidance, a child account cannot add funds directly and does not have a separate wallet. Store purchases use the family manager’s wallet, subject to a monthly spending limit set by the manager. Check the family manager’s available balance and the child’s spending limit before troubleshooting a declined purchase. Rules and labels may differ outside the US; see PlayStation’s payment and wallet support.

Store catalogs and services vary by country/region. For disc games, an add-on may not work if the disc’s licensed region does not match the add-on’s region. Check the game packaging for its region or ask the retailer before buying downloadable content. PlayStation explains the compatibility issue in its regional add-on guidance.

If a top-up or purchase does not appear
- Payment declined: Confirm that the payment method is accepted for the account’s country/region. PlayStation recommends trying another supported method or a voucher and checking PlayStation service status. Troubleshooting guidance is available at PlayStation Store support.
- Voucher will not redeem: Recheck the voucher/account region match and the code. A voucher is for one-time use; if already redeemed, check the account’s wallet and transaction history.
- Funds or a purchase are missing: Review transaction history in account management and confirm which account redeemed the voucher. Funds are not transferable between accounts under the US terms.
- Wallet balance prevents a top-up: A wallet maximum applies under the US terms, but the cited terms do not give a single cap for every account or country. Check the current local terms rather than relying on a number quoted for another region.
Use this checklist when buying for someone else
- Match the voucher’s country/region to the recipient’s PlayStation account region first.
- Confirm the denomination will not exceed any applicable wallet balance limit.
- Buy from a reliable seller and retain proof of purchase.
- Read the voucher’s own redemption restrictions and expiry terms. The cited PlayStation guidance does not establish one expiry period that applies to all vouchers.
