There is no general “activate scripts” button in the normal Roblox game app. To enable, run, and test legitimate Roblox code, use Roblox Studio: place the right script type in a suitable service, leave it enabled, start a playtest, and inspect the Output window. A player cannot legitimately activate arbitrary code inside somebody else’s published game.
What “activate a script” means
Roblox uses Luau scripts in separate server and client contexts. “Activate” can mean several different actions:
- Enable a script: Set its
Enabledproperty totruein Studio, where that property is available. - Run or test code: Start a Studio simulation with Play, Test Here, or Run.
- Call a ModuleScript: Load it with
require()and call the function or data it returns. - Execute code in a live game: Only the experience developer’s published code runs through supported Roblox systems. The regular player client has no Studio-style script control.

- Roblox Studio, signed in with a Roblox account.
- A place you own, a permitted Team Create project, or edit permission from the experience owner.
- A Windows or macOS computer that meets Roblox’s current requirements.
At the time of publication, Roblox lists Windows 10 and macOS 10.14 as minimum operating systems, Windows 11 and macOS 14 or later as recommended, 3 GB of memory as minimum, and 8 GB as recommended. Requirements and interface labels can change; check Roblox’s Studio setup page for the current list. Studio is provided by Roblox without a required purchase for this workflow.

Run a basic server Script
This is the quickest way to confirm that scripting works in your place.
- Open Roblox Studio and open an existing place or create a new one.
- Show Explorer if necessary. Select
ServerScriptService, click its plus button, and choose Script. - Rename the new script, such as
PracticeScript. - Select the script and check Properties. Leave
Enabledset totrue. - Replace the contents with:
print("Hello from Roblox!")- Click Play or press
F5. - Open Window → Output if the Output panel is hidden. You should see
Hello from Roblox!. - Click Stop or press
Shift + F5to end the simulation.

Enable a disabled script
- In Explorer, select the script.
- In Properties, set
Enabledtotrue. - Start or restart the playtest.
Enabling is only one condition. A wrong script type or location, a runtime error, code waiting for an event, or a capability restriction can still prevent visible behavior.

Script, LocalScript, and ModuleScript

A Script placed in a general-purpose container is not guaranteed to run. Likewise, a ModuleScript in ReplicatedStorage does not execute merely because the experience starts. Script type, location, and execution side must match the job. Roblox’s client/server guidance is documented at Client-server runtime concepts.
Calling a ModuleScript
Put this ModuleScript at ReplicatedStorage → MyModule:

Choose the right Studio test mode

During testing you can switch between Client and Server views, or use Server & Clients to simulate multiplayer (up to eight simulated clients in Roblox’s current documentation). Team Test supports collaborative development. These modes help identify whether code works on the server, on a client, or only in a particular simulation. See Studio testing modes.
Verify that code actually ran
Start with a diagnostic at the first line:
print("Script started")- Read Output for
print(),warn(), and red error messages. - Check whether the message is identified as client or server output.
- Confirm the test mode is running and that the code is not waiting for a player, input, touch, or button event.
- Fix the first error before investigating later symptoms.

Why an enabled script does nothing
- Wrong type: A LocalScript is not a server Script, and a ModuleScript does not normally run by itself.
- Wrong location: Move a basic server test to
ServerScriptService; put client code in a supported player-facing container. - No playtest: Opening a place in edit mode does not generally execute gameplay scripts.
- The code path is never reached: Add one
print()at startup and another inside the function or event callback. - An earlier error stopped execution: Read the first red Output error and correct it.
- It is event-driven:
PlayerAdded, input, touched, and GUI callbacks run only after their event occurs. - Wrong execution side: A server script cannot directly read a player’s local input or camera, while client code cannot be trusted with secure rewards or permissions.
- Capabilities restrict it: Roblox can limit where code runs and which APIs or instances it may access. Inspect the exact warning in Output instead of changing settings at random; see script capabilities.
When Studio works but the published game does not
Recheck the Client/Server mode you tested, server authority, permissions, published assets, and any dependency on Studio-only services or settings. Some scripted testing services do nothing in a published experience. A local visual effect can appear correct in Studio while server validation is missing in production, so keep important game rules on the server and use remotes with validation.

Can you activate scripts in someone else’s game?
Not through the supported Roblox player interface. A normal player does not receive a Studio-like control for injecting or activating arbitrary scripts in another creator’s published experience. The legitimate options are to edit your own place, obtain the owner’s collaboration permission, or make a separate copy where permitted.
Do not use exploit executors, injected code, bypasses, or cheat scripts. They are outside Roblox’s supported development workflow and can expose accounts and computers to malware while undermining the game’s security model. Third-party models, plugins, and free assets are code, not automatically safe decorations. Roblox warns that malicious backdoors can obtain unauthorized server access, alter experiences, steal sensitive data, or disrupt players.
- Inspect every script added by a model or plugin.
- Remove scripts the asset does not need.
- Treat obfuscated or unusually complex code as a warning sign.
- Check requested permissions and APIs, especially Network, DataStore, AssetRequire, CapabilityControl, and LoadString.
- Use narrowly scoped capabilities and sandboxing where appropriate.
- Do not treat ratings or popularity as proof of safety.
Use Roblox’s third-party vulnerability guidance and plugin documentation when evaluating extensions.
